Product news galoreTwo recumbents in one, a French folder, new velomobile development, GT news from Greenspeed, the pedal that's also a lock, and reviving a grand old brand... Sue Archer writes: High or medium? Be both! Recumbent makers Metabikes have launched their latest concept, the Metabikes Duo. They suggest that a higher recumbent is fast and easy on the road, and great for riding with upright bikes, but a medium height recumbent is more agile. If you can't decide which geometry to go for, the Duo allows you to have both, thanks to a replaceable front wheel and forks - the change takes a few minutes apparently. The system is available for both their aluminium and carbon framesets:  Folding, French style French manufacturer Ciel & Vents (Sky and Winds) has launched the AMiiVA, a folder with aluminium frame, 3 or 5 speed hub gearing and full suspension. With 20" wheels the fold is not super-compact, but the bike can be trolleyed along easily when folded, and stays locked in folded position thanks to their patented 'Hingenious' hinges. The weight is said to be 10-11.5 kg. There are no prices or dealers on the website as yet but we'll keep you updated.  New velomobile kit under development Spotted on The Recumbent Blog, is this velomobile fairing under development by RBR Recumbent Bicycles - a revival of the Aerolope design some may remember from some years ago. The idea is to produce something to fit to a trike already owned and RBR are considering selling just the shells and gathering feedback from owners. After the original story was posted, RBR sent and update saying that they are now working on a delta design, to fit the likes of the Hase Kettwiesel, a layout which gives better access: Greenspeed GT updates The Greenspeed 2009 GT1 is now avaialable, fitted with a 24 speed derailleur system. The Shimano Nexus 8 speed hub gear fitted to the 2008 version proved not to have sufficient range for many people. Rather than repeat the full press release and details we'll just direct you to here on the Recumbent Blog where you can also see a demonstration of the speed and ease of unfolding a Greenspeed ready to go: Stowaway security This BBC video report on Brunel University's design exhibition features a lock integrated into a pedal (just after the hi-tech gnome at around 45 seconds in). The lock is formed from linked plates which fold up to fit inside the pedal housing, and can be used singly or joined together if a bigger loop is needed. Might be handy for ensuring you're never out without a lock, assuming it can withstand attack.
