Easter news round-upGreenspeed's Quike quad, Gocycle news from the Taipei show, Ortlieb's competition winner, Bike Shorts International Film Festival,a pedal-powered grain crusher, vote for the Scraper Bikes, bicycle skiing, free small ads sites and a bike lane satire... Quike quad from Greenspeed to tackle Asia journey ![]() Greenspeed write: Here is a sneak preview of the latest Quad from Greenspeed’s ‘extra specials’ department. Technically it’s a Recumbent Sociable Tandem Quad with active front suspension, but more affectionately know by the imaginative young couple that dreamed of such a beast (Megan and Roger) as Quike. What you see here is the bare bones of the quad, and it will be all kitted up later on after the initial testing with pods to make it amphibious and many a rack to carry everything needed for desert and water crossing. To follow this amazing story you can check out the website at www.steppebysteppe.com.au Roger Chao explains: "In April 2009, we will commence our 12-month journey traversing the steppes at the heart of the Asian continent. Beginning in the Ural Mountains in Russia, we will work our way through Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan), western China, Mongolia and Siberia." Best of luck to them, and it looks like a splendid vehicle! Gocycle is go! Miles Hellon writes with news of the GoCycle - the development of the bike designed by Richard Thorpe and previously known and featured in Velo Vision as the FoxEFolder. It was on display at the Taipei Show, and Miles notes this report from Bicycle Retailer. There's also a picture and very brief info in the trade show newsletter 'Show Daily PDF' (1.6 Mb). Bike Shorts International Film Festival calls for films Dustin Anderson, co-author of the article in Issue 21 about a cross-canada ride on a back-to-back recumbent tandem, writes: "I have taken over the reigns of the Bike Shorts International Film Festival that happens in Bike Month here in Vancouver. I am contacting everyone I know in the bike world to gather content. I am particularly interested in recumbent related work.Do you know any producers of bike related films? If so please pass them on my email address and ask them to contact me. I am gathering as much content as possible." Contact Dustin on: dustin atsignthingy purplepirate splot com There's also a blog at www.bikeshorts.blogspot.com Pedal-powered grain crusher Simon Kellett writes with news of a pedal-powered grain crusher under development at Rowan University in New Jersey, USA. Vote for Scraper Bikes Carlton Read suggests cyclists may wish to vote for 'Scraper Bikes' by 'Trunk Boiz' in this year's Youtube Awards: all the details and appropriate links are on quickrelease.tv/?p=352 Bicycle skiing? Robin Cook writes: "I've just put up a web page promoting the concept of skis propelled by cycling. I don't know if the idea could lead to anything but I wondered if any of your members might be interested?" Cycle small ads There are quite a few free cycling small ad sites around - from Velo Vision, CycleChat, the CTC, BikeRadar, ACF and more... and that's just the road-cycling oriented ones in the UK. But most are adjuncts to other larger sites, or part of general forums. I recently received an email to remind me of the site designed only for cycling small ads, www.onceridden.com. Worth a look, and there are a few interesting machines on it just now, for example this Windcheetah and this tandem trike. Cycle lane satire Can't remember who sent me this, but might raise a chuckle: Newsbiscuit on cycle lanes. Posted on 20 March 2008
