Small wheels, rowing and videos

Spectating room only now at the Brompton championships, Moultoneers' meeting pics, rowing to victory and some high octane videos.

Sue Archer writes:

Brompton Championships: 600 entrants ready to go!
Registration for this year's Brompton World Championships is now full, with a record 600 entrants ready to take part at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire on October 4th, as part of the Bike Blenheim Palace event. As well as the Brompton race there will be a time trial, cyclo-cross and bike polo, so there's plenty to see if you just want to go along and watch. Last year's Brompton race was described by the winner as ‘a fantastically eccentric British day out’, with entrants, as ever, required to adopt a jacket, shirt and tie dress code. If you've missed out on entering this year, you can register your Brompton to ensure early notification for 2010.

Moultoneers meet up
Also on the subject of small wheeled British institutions, Moulton owners have recently enjoyed their annual meeting at Bradford on Avon, home of Dr Alex Moulton. A good time was had by all in fine weather, and you can see pictures of the event on the Moulton Buzz blog. There's also a vast selection in this flickr album, courtesy of Clive Tasker; plenty of views of bikes, riders, camping and catering.

Rowing to victory
If you happen to be near the island of Neeltje Jans in the Netherlands this weekend (September 19th and 20th), look out for the 11th Rowingbike Championships. Around 70 riders are expected to take part in various racing and touring classes, including a sprint, a time trial and an 80 km race. For more information on rowingbikes and the championships, and to see pictures from previous events, go to the Rowingbike website. You can watch some of last year's Criterium action here:

Fast fun on film
Finally a selection of videos on a fast and fun theme:

Firstly, a worm's-eye view of a trip across the Spanish island of Mallorca on Toxy ZR recumbent bikes, with some tantalising glimpses of spectacular scenery in the background:

Next, some more recumbent fun, this time on three wheels, as a Trice Q and a KMX Viper are put through their paces in Madrid, proving how much fun trikes can be:

Finally, some racing from a more sedate age. If one of the modern British driving stereotypes is the White Van Man (an impatient driver of a light goods vehicle who has little regard for other road users) then this is perhaps the 1930's equivalent, a race of Dutch delivery bikes in Bussem, Netherlands in 1933. Thankfully the baskets appear to be empty, so nobody was left wondering where their groceries had got to...
