New Year round-up

Trice teasers, a starring role for Scorpions, Terracycle take on Windwrap fairings, new lights blaze a trail and a new-to-us family friendly dealer...

Sue Archer writes:

Trice teasers
Inspired Cycle Engineering have plenty of innovations in the pipeline for 2010, and you can get a taste of things to come on their website, and in these video trailers. Full details should be available soon, and we've a review of a full suspension model lined up for next issue!

Scorpions star on-screen
Two Scorpion trikes from HP Velotechnik star in a chase scene in German film 13 Semester. You can see a trailer of the chase here:
, and German speakers can read all about it here on the HP Velotechnik website.

Terracycle acquires Windwrap
Recumbent parts and accessories specialists Terracycle have acquired Windwrap Fairings from Mueller Human Power. Mark Mueller set up his company in 1998 after experiments with fairings convinced him of their value, and has built up a wide range of fairings and mounts to fit recumbents and uprights. Terracycle plan to expand the current range even further and to make them easily available outside the US, through EU distributor Icletta.

Get lit up!

News of a couple of new lighting products: first the enormous Reallite from the US. This massive light measures 4" by 6" (10 by 15 cm) and holds eighteen LEDs. Available in red, white or 'gold' (amber), 4 AA batteries should give a runtime of 60 hours and there are steady and blinking modes. That size should certainly allow it to compete well in the urban mix of car lights. We've emailed them to ask about availability outside the USA.

Spotted on Bike Commuters.com and casting a lot of light in a slightly different way are the BikeBrightz. Similar to products like the Down Low Glow we reviewed in Issue 22, BikeBrightz aren't meant to be directly visible, but instead cast an eyecatching pool of light under the bike. They use LEDs rather than neon tubes, and 6 LEDs run on 2 AAA batteries. 4 colours are available.

New family friendly dealer

Finally, news of a new UK dealer specialising in family transport. Kids and Family Cycles, based in the south of England, can supply child and cargo carrying versions of the Danish Bellabike (pictured above), as well as the bike/buggy combinations Taga and Zigo, which we reviewed in Issue 34. The Bellabike can hold 2 or 4 children, including babies in suitable car seats or carrycots, has rear wheel steering, and a delightful range of panel designs for the passenger box.
