Velo Vision is iPad-ready!

Digital edition subscribers can already read current and all back issues on an iPhone via the Exactly app - and this will also work on the new Apple tablet...

Subscribers to the digital edition of Velo Vision have for some time been able to read the magazine on the Apple iPhone via the app developed by our digital issue partners, Exact Editions:

Direct link to Exactly on iTunes.

With the launch of the larger-screened iPad the attraction of reading on a portable device is perhaps even greater... some recent musings on the Exact Editions blog suggest that for one unspecified magazine around 2% of readers use an iPhone rather than a standard computer web browser to access the magazine content. The entry also mentions that you can now read magazines offline, too...

If you have an iPhone, give it a go! Maybe you could leave a comment below with your verdict - unfortunately none of the VV staff actually have an iPhone, so we've never seen Exactly in action ourselves.

  • Just tried it: works surprisingly well on a small screen. Navigation is simple and effective, pictures look good.
It does probably require Apple's latest and greatest, though. Pages are a bit slow to load even on a 3Gs, on a wifi network. Zooming and scrolling is butter smooth once loaded, though, so it's no deal breaker. One little thing that could be better is the 'tap to zoom': it works, but it doesn't do the handy fit text to screen width move the iPhone Safari browser does.
For content management, one thing I did miss was the ability to find and buy a single issue- I could only see the one free trial issue. Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to subscribe from within the app; you have to do that via the website.
