Bikes of all shapes and sizesA round up of everything from ski bikes to quintuplets, bicycle lawnmowers to bicycle art, and cyclos to the BarBra... Sue Archer writes: The cross country ski-trike The staff at Calhoun Cycle recently had some fun testing the Evolutionary Transport trike - a trike powered by a motion similar to cross-country skiing. With the last snows of winter hopefully melting away soon, this is the way to keep up that ski fitness. The lawnmower trike With the arrival of spring, those lawns are going to start growing again soon. If you'd rather be cycling than mowing, you need this pedal powered mower, spotted for us by Stephen Bach at the NAHBS, and on Jim Langley's blog. Ted Wojcik of Ted Wojcik Custom Bicycles, who built the trike, says they plan to go into limited production with a fixed gear version to allow reversing. On a bicycle made for... how many?! Tandems aren't that unusual and even the odd triplet can be seen about town. But Jason Patient spotted this Daily Pilot article about the Harrison family, touring North America on their five seater. You can follow their progress at their own Pedouins website - the bad news is that their journey is on hold since their trailer caught fire... Keep your mitts warm in a Barbra This winter has been fairly harsh by UK standards, and keeping your hands warm on the bike, without losing all manual dexterity is a delicate balance. Spotted on Gizmag, the Barbra reduces windchill to allow the rider to wear lighter gloves to operate brakes and gears easily, and get hands out quickly to indicate. It even has vents to accommodate lights or mirrors. Bikes as art, or just plain fun Seen on The Guardian website is this collection of bikes and bike parts as art or just freaky fun. Meanwhile on Cyclechat, Sam Kennedy spotted this collection of DIY bikes on Efitology. The executive chair recumbent just need a pedal powered desk to go with it! The Cyclos of Phnom Penh We had a report from Claude Marthaler in Issue 32 about the pedicab riders of Cambodia's capital. Now you can see them in action in this short BBC video. As Claude reported, the drivers are under pressure from motorised transport, but specially arranged tourist rides could be a lucrative lifeline. Posted on 12 March 2010 Your comments ...
