Vote for a Velo Vision reader's very clever pedals...

'Fast Forward' pedals from Stephen Britt promise bolt-on extra power for any bicycle. Now they're shortlisted for an award and voting is open now...

A reader, Stephen Britt, has emailed to let us know that his "Fast Forward Cycle Pedals" have been shortlisted for the 'Take One Small Step competition' from Barclays Bank.

Check out the entry and video presentation here on the Barclays site...

As you'll see there, Stephen Britt's invention is a powered pedal system:

which seems to incorporate battery and a small motor within the pedal itself - so it's easily retro-fitted to absolutely any bike. In use, it presumably aims to add to your efforts by 'twisting' the pedal under the sole of your foot, so helping revolve the cranks...

Stephen is now calling for anyone who likes the idea to add their vote:

"It's now down to votes alone. Voting is open now. If I win I will use the money to fully develop the product and hopefully do manufacturing in 2011-12."

Visit the competition page to add your vote!

  • He compares the weight of the pedals to that of 2 cans of baked beans, seem most appropriate for a power generating device.
