A home-made Porteur On the subject of DIY: a 'Porteur' rack is a wide platform rack mounted on the front wheel of a bike, of the sort delivery boys used to use - ideal for mounting a big basket on, or simply strapping on an odd load. Spotted on Bikecommuters.com is this DIY version, made from metal shelf support strips, U-bolts and P-Clips, and simply bolted together.

A penny farthing for the future J Holiday spotted some futuristic bike designs by Slovakian designer Peter Varga, including a recumbent mini penny farthing which folds, a quick folding compact city bike and a load or passenger carrying tricycle. The penny farthing looks as if it would be fun to ride, although tricky to mount gracefully.

The porteur rack was interesting until I saw how many bolts etc. were holding it together. Even with all the nylok nuts and threadlock in the world I'd not trust it with a heavy load until I'd taken a welding torch to it.
Nice idea though.
