Eurobike news roundup 1Brompton's new wider gearing, Sturmey's fixed three-speed, Tout-Terrain's trigger shifter for Rohloff, dynamo charger, Kidztandem on show, and the Bullitt load bike Brompton's wide six speed A new wide-range three-speed hub from Sturmey Archer, combined with their two-speed 'derailleur' system, gives Brompton owners an extended gearing range - I'll have to nip back to confirm the exact numbers, but I gathered it was around the same as a wide-range cassette, or that of an 8 or 9-speed hub gear. It seems the hub is made especially for them by Sturmey. Didn't get any useful pics yet... Sturmey three-speed fixed Sunrace Sturmey-Archer are about to launch a new run of three-speed hubs for fixed gear bikes. I have a picture of a prototype labelled S3X - that isn't going to be its final designation... Tout-Terrain's trigger German manufacturer Tout-Terrain (we reviewed their full-sus tourer a few issues back) had several developments on show. Among them was a very first prototype of a trigger shifter for the Rohloff hub: completed just hours before the show. It worked nicely, anyway, shifting up to two gears in one push. Unfortunately they say it'll probably be at least a year before it's available to buy. Also on the Tout-Terrain stand was a neat system whereby you can charge any Mini-USB equipped device from the hub dynamo as you ride. The hub was also modified so that there's no cables to attach or detach: electrical contacts are made as you lock it into the fork on each side. Also early days for this, no production date announced as yet. 100,000 Rohloffs Rohloff were celebrating making 100 000 of their 14-speed hub gears, and had a gold hub created to mark the occasion. Kidztandem in Europe The manufacturer of the Kidztandem, featured in News last issue, has the bike on show at Eurobike and is looking for a European distributor... Bullitt load bike New from 'Da Bomb' comes a very chunky-looking front load carrier... I'll add links when I'm back. Posted on 5 September 2008 Your comments ...
