It isn't recumbent I know, but this design offers great flexibility and a fair amount of fun. So many family solutions require parents to change machines every few years. This way you have a useful bike that can grow with you and will compliment the other bikes you use without taking too much space.
With the Circe you can drop of a child at nursery or school and still have capacity to head off to work.

A tandem also allows your 'passenger' to fully participate in helping to power along and builds up their cycling ability. Handling is predictable and secure too. For two adults the design handles really well. Check out the Audax and other versions available here.
http://www.circecycles.com to see the full model range.

http://laid-back-bikes.co.uk now have a demo of this machine at the Bicycle Works in Edinburgh.
• Aluminium frame with excellent paint finish and components
• Adjusts from small child to adult - CRANK SHORTENERS can be supplied
• Load carrying rack available - including standard Rhode style childseat (or seats!). Plugs into seat posts - one very slick feature that's easy to use.
• 210cm long
• Chain on one side means no oil on your clothes when you pick up over right shoulder. Standard tandems have chain on left just where you don't want it.
• Neat and light enough to cycle solo
• Big enough to suit two adults
• Can be fitted with Blackburn rear rack
• Rohloff version available
• Entry level price of ฃ920

The Circe is the perfect multi-use vehicle that will suit those that may not have a garage. I can carry this up a spiral staircase quite easily. This is a bike you can use every day of the year (with mudguards). The low step over frame is user friendly and has a potential loading area that is huge for its 'footprint'.

As featured in VELO VISION 16 in 2004! I'm actually reluctant to sell this but it's no longer a current model and I need more space.
A good first bike if you want to sample recumbancy and don't want a lot of gears. In fact hub gearing is quite handy on a recumbent.

Now replaced by Wizard then Ventus in Challenge range. Was in range till around 2005. This one dates from around 2000 although looks very good with bright red paintwork. This is in very good condition except where front boom slides into frame.

• Front and back suspension
• Air shock fitted - can fit coil spring
• Steel frame but not too heavy unladen - early Focus and Hurricanes were steel before Challenge started using aluminium
• Curved folding tiller as per later Challenge bikes
• Neatly designed rear rack for rack-top box (not panniers)
• 7 speed SRAM hub gear. V-brake front and drum brake back. A tidy chainline.
• Seat has foam pad.
• QR for moving boom
• Paint work is good except where boom moves in. Some oil marks.

The hub gear has been taken apart and greased. New cables and changer with nice indicator from SRAM. New front wheel and tyre.

No pics yet - can always log onto VV16 online edition.

Koga Tesla e-bike, Toxy ZR, AVD Van and Ostrad

A bit of a mixed bag of new and old bikes here ;-)

New, I've got the last of the 2009 Koga Tesla electric bikes - the usual Koga build quality, with a battery hidden away in the down tube and a silent rear hub motor, down from ฃ2795 to ฃ1995. There's also an ex-display Toxy ZR lowracer recumbent with tailbox, for offers around ฃ1850.

Old, there's an AVD Van - a four-wheeled, electric-assisted load carrier which can carry more than my car, and a rare Ostrad full-suspension recumbent bike.

Loads more info, pictures etc on my website:

Just to update and clarify.

This is a large frame version but much holds true from the review in current VV. Recommended from 175cm to 200cm. Seat fitted is large.

Also can add a pannier rack to this as described in new Velo Vision and on the Nazca web site. Can also add guards. The Folex wheels are pretty robust for 24 spoke designs.

Offers between ฃ1k and ฃ1.3k. Interparcel delivery if required.

David

PS - It is NOT the black Fuego that was reviewed in BROL a while back.

It's the time of year when next years stock starts to arrive and new products too!

Our first new product will be the Taga Stroller Trike (as reviewed in VeloVision 34) Come and try the Taga and all the relevant accessories - including the second child seat for those of you with 2 (or expecting another!).

Or perhaps you are after a more conventional bike with sturdy backbone for heavier loads - if so, consider the Dutch ID "Double Dutch" Utility Bike. We might be wrong but we think we are the first to offer this fine Practical bike in the UK...

We have an information page for these new products on our website www.practicalcycles.com - why not take a look or contact us to book a no obligation test ride (the bikes will be in stock within the next 7 days).
