The Sky's the limit... Cyclemagic Festival joins Leicester Sky Ride for a day of cycling...
Sue Archer writes:
Following on from the success of last year's event, the Sky Ride is returning to Leicester on the 29th August, and local organisation and Velo Vision friends Cyclemagic will be hosting a festival on the day at the Abbey Pumping Station. Cyclemagic's Roger Lovell says there will be "bike try-out, reverse steer bike challenge, tall bikes, short bikes, circus bikes, tandems, tricycles, penny farthings, boneshakers, recumbents, folders, racing pedal cars and cycling history", and it's all free to attend - there will even be free Indian food, courtesy of a local Sikh Gurdwara. Velo Vision/Electric Bike Magazine will be there too, of course.
The 9km route for this year's Sky Ride, on closed roads and cycle tracks, will go through the city centre, and pass the unmistakeable tower of the National Space Centre, with the start and finish in Abbey Park. The route will pass right by the Pumping Station, so it'll be easy to drop in and see what's going on. The event runs from 10am to 4pm.
We've reported from many Cyclemagic events in the past, such as Ride Leicester back in 2005. You can also see many pictures from their ten year history, and keep up to date with their activities on Facebook.
