| From: Norti rascal (@hmp.com) on 2 August 2006 | | All very interesting I'm sure - but will there be any pictures of Seamus, Dr Arch, Roger the Hilldodger etc, etc? |
| From: Ben - Kinetics ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Excellent ;-) How quick did you get at folding the CF trailer? I've got it down to about 30 seconds... |
| From: Peter Eland ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Yup, about the same :-)
Seamus makes at least one appearance - not sure about the others. Some of the event report pics have quite a few people in the background, so with some microscope work you might spot 'em! |
| From: andy ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Seamus makes only one appearance in Velovision?! Surely not?! ;-) |
| From: Arch (@thelibrary) on 2 August 2006 | Hang on, I'm not Dr Arch yet, only Arch(BA BSc MSc). There's three years and a lot of work to do yet...
I'm sure anyone who went to Cyclefest could probably claim that one of the minute blurry figures in the back of a photo was them, and then we'd all be famous. But not as famous as Seamus of course. |
| From: andy scaife ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Well if Arch would only get that recumbent finished, we could award her an honorary doctorate of bodgery. however, if you paint the remaining bits too nicely (or at all) you will be disqualified. Apparently I'm only in the new VV the once, and then only by proxy thanks to John Bradshaw! I have just got my film processed from the York Rally, and there, time after time, is...Seamus! I think he must have lots of clones floating around, invisible to all but the photographic lens.... the pic on John's spin-cycle is a hoot though! |
| From: steve green (@thebackofthecrowd,butclearlyv) on 2 August 2006 | I was on the back cover of Cycling weekly once:- in the crowd starting an early London to Brighton Ride. (I'm usually more likely to be featured in Cycling Weakly...) |
| From: Norti Rascal (@hmp.com) on 2 August 2006 | | You're Dr Arch to us (soon to be) Dr Arch. |
| From: mike ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Why was it the last Cyclefest at Lancaster?
|
| From: RtH (@cyclemagic) on 2 August 2006 | Because John and Pat need a break from organising things. I hear they're off riding their vintage motorbikes soon, so I hope they have a great time doing that.
RtH |
| From: Pat ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | and riding our cycles too - we have some long tours planned for them - especially over the summer of 2006 so we can't possibly organise another CF then! Have just returned from the Moulton weekend and it was great to see so many CyleFesters there, and we shall look forward to attending lots of other events where we get to see you all in a much more relaxed manner. |
| From: Seamus (etc) on 2 August 2006 | this is all so depressing, reading the contents of the forthcoming mag.
This time last week I was still in Denmark. |
| From: andy scaife ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | well there is still no pile of magazines outside VV's office! had to buy a newspaper to read with my lunch instead... how depressing! |
| From: Peter Eland ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Just rang the printers - turns out delivery will be tomorrow (Friday). A large pile of envelopes is all ready and waiting to be stuffed :-) |
| From: Peter Eland ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Mags just arrived - mailing now. Should get all overseas copies out today, plus a good few of the UK ones. The rest should go out on Monday. |
| From: andy scaife (skiving@thecoffeeshopinstead) on 2 August 2006 | | Another literary triumph! Love the Ice-T (if only the Ice-Q came in that lovely blue). Reviews of the events I never got to are far too brief, in fact the whole magazine should be at least the size of the Ikea catalogue, and be issued weekly! What am I going to do till December, once I've read it? |
| From: HPVfriend ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Fantastic I've got mine Velovision today. I'm reading it right now! Looks very good. Greetings from Sweden |
| From: Neil ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | It got to Stockport today as well. Well done Peter also to your art editor who produces a clear uncluttered magazine. Do you feel a but coming cos there is I must say I find the font size bloddy difficult to read now you might say I am an old fart and need glasses but thats not the case so heres a plea to look at the print size in future.
Outstanding article on Rickshaws in London really interesting and as I am about to set off on annual holidays cycling Hull to Harwich I found the tour item also ace if a little heave of photography.
By the away if anyone has any advice on the eastern half of England which as a previous mountain man I have never visited I would welcome it. |
| From: John Shackford (as advised!) on 2 August 2006 | | My Velovision will arrive to Gloucestershire after the subscribers in Germany. I will be the last in line as usual. I love to get the Velovision after everyone els. Why? Because I am straining at the leash following all the reports of how good this issue is etc. I grab the envelope as it comes through the letter box, with both hands. I rip it open---to find that its NOT Velovision, its just Trail Magazine! I really enjoy the wait though because even though mine comes last, I have the same wait between issues as everyone else-so there.....Best regards from an extremely wet South Gloucestershire today is Tuesday 14th October. Update promised soon as. |
| From: Seamus (etc) on 2 August 2006 | Just for a change let's not all start griping about the late delivery of our copies of Velovision or any of the, "how come some bloke in Swedens got his and I haven't got mine just down the road from York."
It'll make such a pleasant change. |
| From: Antony (at pedalcars) on 2 August 2006 | Seamus, I never realised your surname was "Pot"!
VV hasn't reached Sheffield yet. Exact delivery date never normally bothers me, but I've been off work ill the last two days and it would have been a welcome relief from the tedium! |
| From: Rebecca (not@work) on 2 August 2006 | | What difference does a few days either side of the expected delivery date make? I think we're pretty fortunate to have a magazine like this at all, not least where the Ed. does a ton of it himself (and that's not a blatant plug just because Peter printed my e-mail). |
| From: John Shackford (youallknowit) on 2 August 2006 | Hmmmm, If Velovision were not to publish the next date of issue we would all unsubscribe? I was a Bycycle subscriber and lost TWO years of subs due to late delivery! Yes I agree its a good mag and Peter does a great job. But the customer counts as number one. I am seriously not concerned to get mine after other people but I would be if it was a monthly mag. I just regret the passing of Bycycle and hope that Velovision keeps going and that A to B gets back to reality (my own opinion of course). Best regards, John. |
| From: John Shackford (anyoneyoulike) on 2 August 2006 | Well that said! Mines here now so leave me alone I am busy today reading! John. |
| From: Norti Rascal (@hmp.com) on 2 August 2006 | 've been off work ill the last two days>
Poof. |
| From: Steven Brandist (stevenbrandist@yah...) on 2 August 2006 | Norti,
I find that 'Ponce' is a much better word and quite out of use nowadays. |
| From: Ann Onymoustopolis (blank) on 2 August 2006 | | I wonder when the next issue of, "Recumbent UK," will be out? |
| From: andy scaife (Annoyed@whinging) on 2 August 2006 | Blimey Guys! will you lot just give Peter a break? As possibly the first reader to get a copy every quarter, I can vouch that I called round last Thursday afternoon, and there was no sign of the printers delivery. By the time I went round on friday to get my copies, there were dozens of mailbags, and pile upon pile of franked and filled envelopes ready to be collected by Royal Mail. How much quicker do you lot want the guy to do it? Rebecca is right, Seamus is right, and the rest of you ought to write moaning letters to Royal Mail instead of biting the hand that feeds you. So there! |
| From: John Shackford (homealone) on 2 August 2006 | No person is complaining--its all fun! We all know Peters predicament. Its not our worry though we just fund his business. I fund Sainsburys too and I complain if anything goes amiss. I am entitled to. I am not complaining at all. Its just the wait can be unbearable once I know the latest issue is due........soon. Well done Peter yet again. All the best, John. |
| From: Roger (@Cyclemagic) on 2 August 2006 | Andy (Scaife) haven't got your e-mail address but just wanted to say thanks for the phone message. I've contacted him and will be collecting the stuff next week.
Wonder what comments will follow this!
|
| From: Tom Riley ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | | Hear, hear, Andy! Rog, re the item I've been chasing up for you; should be where you want it when you want it... and is it the same one as above?! Andy, give me a shout re swapsies. Anybody else out there chasing bits for Leicester's master macklers? |
| From: Wobbly John ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Yes, we're all searching our magazine collections for Bike Culture issue 20!
(see Wanted ads if you're confused) |
| From: Roger - man of mystery (@cyclemagic) on 2 August 2006 | | cheers for sorting that item out Tom. It's a different one to Andy's item(s) and I'm still looking for Bike Culture 20. |
| From: Seamus (etc) on 2 August 2006 | so what's so interesting in BCQ 20?
Managed 20 minutes after getting home before I opened the big envelope containing Velovision.
That's a very not recent piccie of me leading the bunch on the Ford Castle week (I was one of the freeloaders and soon outstayed my welcome).
ICE T looks very nice.
Touring article wonderful. Was put in mind of my last day in Denmark. I'd spent the night in Esbjerg youth hostel 'cos I was sick of getting rained on but the day dawned bright and sunny and wonderful and it would have been so much a nicer way to finish the trip had I awoken to such a day on the campsite near Nordby on Fano as I'd originally planned. |
| From: Antony (again) on 2 August 2006 | Norti, Steven, any time you want to call me a poof or a ponce face to face, come and have a go.
If you think (etc).
You can find me at any pedal car race, I'll be the one looking like the serial killer.
And first you'll need to enter the race. And compete for the full duration.
Would it be fair for me to call you both a pair of ****wits? No, I don't think so, so I wont. |
| From: Wobbly John ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Yay! There's a photo of me in VV15!
A couple of minor errors in the caption however: Troy and Brad live in Canada; and the Spincycle video is on my http://xntrick.co.uk site. The video has been updated with film shot at Mildenhall rally, including an unusual method of riding the Spincycle. If you need to know why I'm 'Wobbly John' - see the Wobblebike video on the same site. |
| From: Wobbly John (as above) on 2 August 2006 | | P.S. The behatted gentleman riding the Wobblebike in the video is the hilldodging historian from Leicester! |
| From: Mary Arneson (waiting@lbsforvelovision) on 2 August 2006 | | All you guys who are complaining about Peter mailing the overseas orders out first -- have pity. It is the SIXTEENTH, and Calhoun Cycle in Minneapolis is STILL WAITING for its Velovisions! I stopped in on my way to work, and Luke hollered from the repair area, "looking for number 15? It's not here yet." I'm holding out hope for tomorrow, though. |
| From: Norti rascal (in hiding) on 2 August 2006 | | Anthony - I can give you Steven's address if you like......... |
| From: Antony (again) on 2 August 2006 | That's so generous of you Norti, from behind a cloak of anonymity.
But I wouldn't trust it to be correct, given you can't even spell my name right...
;) |
| From: Arch (@highspeed) on 2 August 2006 | Quick, I have to get this comment in before the story falls off the bottom of the page....
With regard to the letter and photo from Leicester's premier cycling historian, surely Mr Hilldodger realises that the dog in the picture is in fact 'Sparky', a Jack Russell cross, sired by a dog owned by the Duke of Rutland (Hubgear Montmerency III - pedigree of mother unknown). Rejected by the aristocracy, Sparky was adopted by Walker, the crisp magnate, and became famous when he rescued a policeman from the River Soar, after rioting caused by the Great Spoke Shortage of 1931.
Or, I could be making it all up. |
| From: Leicester's most handsome (etc etc) on 2 August 2006 | | Well, I believe it - so it goes straight into the archive. I think we need a memorial to Sparky here in Leicester - one made out of recycled lampposts. |
| From: Arch (@thelibrary) on 2 August 2006 | | I think there's potential for a series of childrens books as well... |
| From: andy scaife ([email protected]) on 2 August 2006 | Well there's my proper address for rog and Tom! For everyone else, I spotted someone in an old CTC mag disposing of an extensive cycling library free, an elderly writer who had collected loads of stuff. The Moulton stuff had gone so I put Roger onto the rest. Its worth bearing in mind Mr hilldodger's history project if you spot anything like that. I'm just swopping some tyres with Tom, and trying to pry a custard-coloured object out of his shed, but he aint dealin! |
