Huge stockpile of Reynolds 531 available near YorkBuilding your own bike - fancy having a go? Cost and availability of materials need not be a problem. Several tons of Reynolds 531 tubing, ranging in diameter from 5/16 to 1 inch, is available for not much money from a fabrication engineer based near York, UK. He bought it as a job lot a while ago, and would like to see it used. Roger Titchmarsh of Ashton Trading Company, based in Elvington, near York, has 'large quantities' of all of the sizes listed below. He's happy to sell in small amounts to homebuilders, and might also be interested in shifting larger bulk supplies - any manufacturers out there looking for materials? Telephone 01759 318 562. Sizes available, all in inches, gauge. I converted the diameters and sheet metal gauge to mm, too, for us metric types, but my conversion table only did 18g and 16g, not 17g. I'd guess 17g = about 1.45mm. Anyone know better? 5/16 24g (7.94mm x 0.70mm) 3/8 20g (9.53mm x 1.01mm) 0.542 20g (13.77mm x 1.01mm) 5/8 20g (15.88mm x 1.01mm) 3/4 20g (19.05mm x 1.01mm) 1/2 18g (12.7mm x 1.31mm) 5/8 18g (15.88mm x 1.31mm) 7/8 18g (22.23mm x 1.31mm) 3/4 17g (19.05mm x 1.45mm) 7/8 17g (22.23mm x 1.45mm) 1 17g (25.4mm x 1.45mm) The 5/16th tubing might be fun for anyone with time on their hands looking to make a Moultonesque space-frame...
