Join an HPV odyssey: UK to SPEZI

A spectacular convoy of Broxes, Anthrotechs and other HPVs will be making its way from the UK through Holland and Germany to the Special Bike Show in Germersheim, Southern Germany, which takes place on the 21st and 22nd April 2001. Here's how to get in touch if you'd like to join them.

Rob Brock writes: 'We are planning to ride from the UK with a wagon train of Baby BROXes and AnthroTechs to the 'Spezi' in Southern Germany. Myself on a Baby BROX and my girlfriend Caroline on an AnthroTech will ride from Manchester to the ferry at Hull. Bo the clown on his Baby BROX (which should by then sport a special Punch and Judy back - I kid you not) and his wife Michelle on their AnthroTech will ride from Newcastle to the ferry there and Stuart Dennison and possibly Dave Moreno from Bikefix will ride to the ferry at Harwich. We will all meet up in Rotterdam where we will be joined by one of the 'Tourmobile' riders on their Baby BROX. We will then ride through Holland into Germany where we will meet up with Stephan Thonett and his girlfriend Lisa on their home made 'Tandem BROX' (again, I kid you not) and two recumbent bike dealers on recumbent bikes and will then proceed to wind all the way down along the Rhine to Germersheim for the exhibition (or party as it will be for us on arrival!). This will the be the official 'Launch Odyssey' of the Compact BROX. Cycles Maximus and the Hase team have now also been invited to join us.'

Anyone interested in joining in should contact Rob Brock or Stuart Dennison at Bikefix (click the names to send email). I'd love to go along myself - but we'll have to see how magazine production is proceeding...

Stefan Thonett's Radlast website has a page about the convoy ride including a nice map.

The Spezi is well worth a visit, even if you can't ride there in convoy. It's the original HPV show, and is a 'must' for pretty much every European HPV and specialised cycle manufacturer. People travel from all across Germany and beyond to be there. Organised by Hardy Siebecke and colleages from the Germersheim shop Haasies Radschlag, it's got a nice, informal atmosphere and also a good-sized test track for people to try out the bikes, trikes and quads on show.

The SPEZI website should be at

but it wasn't working when I wrote this. Here are the other contact details:
