Forgotton Russian HPV ideas see light of day

Designs by an HPV enthusiast from Ulyanovsk, Russia, have been uncovered by the Moscow-based manufacturers of the AS Engineering FWD recumbent trike.

The illustrations show a fully-faired 'delta' trike - two wheels at the back - with what are described as carbon-fibre disk wheels. The bodywork is nicely styled, and looks as if it's designed to accommodate the rear wheels pivoting in the style of a Flevo Trike.
Also shown are some line drawings for a four-wheeler, and an interesting upright bike design, incorporating luaggage carriers front and rear. The website also shows some interesting developments in electric-assist. The front-wheel drive system of the ASE machines makes electric drive to the rear particularly easy to arrange.

  • THis remind me of the Eastgerman designer Paul Rinkowski.
Who started developing recumbents in the sixtys, and whos ideas were heard of, in the west, only after the wall came down.
