Hundreds wish Steve Donaldson farewellAround 450 people attend the funeral of a much-loved member of the HPV community. Also, news of two UK HPV events looking for riders... The funeral took place on Friday in Aberdeen, Scotland. Andrew Harrington writes: "There was a huge turnout of approx 450 people at Steve's funeral at Aberdeen Crematorium on Friday 02/05/03. Some of us wore Deeside Thistle Cycling club colours. One of his bikes was on display complete with aero handstitched bag, which he made himself. (The one with the flowers on it, as seen on the tribute pictures on the BHPC website. He was a stalwart of Deeside Thistle and Grampian CTC and will be sorely missed by all his friends here in Aberdeen." There are now hundreds of entries in the Memorial Book on the BHPC website. Meanwhile, we've received the following event updates: The Old Crown Challenge 17th/18th May The pub-ride with altitude. Runs from Durham to Hesket Newmarket, home of the Old Crown via Alston. Hilly with big scenery (Pennines, Lake District) industrial history/dereliction (Weardale, Nenthead) and a jolly nice pub at the end. Will take a weekend cos it's 75 miles each way and doing it in one go takes away the point of stopping at a pub. Low gears and good brakes are a very good idea! London HPV races Stuart of Bikefix writes to inform us that the succesful 'have a go' HPV race series held in London's Herne Hill Stadium continues this Sunday at a slightly revised time (it was originally 2 PM): "Change of time for the race on Sunday. They have booked the footballers in until 3pm so we are able to use the track after that for racing. We can probably use it for warming up before that." See http://www.bikefix.co.uk/hpv_racing.html for all the details. Posted on 06 May 2003 Your comments ...
