Chain suck sorted
While you're in a technical mood after the story below, check out this detailed analysis of chain suck...
It's carried out by a South African engineer, Jonathan Levy, who writes:
"You may wish to bring this website about the problem of chain-suck to the attention of your readers. It deals with the causes and mechanisms of chain-suck, as well as how to avoid and remedy the problem:

| From: andy scaife ([email protected]) on 15 May 2003 | You see! what did I say just below? Exposed transmissions hanging down in the mud, getting all clagged up and waiting to be bashed off (possibly trashing the frame in the process). The first mountain bikes had hub gears and brakes, and that's the only way to do it. I think I'll just write to 'Land Rover Owner' magazine and suggest that they all remove their transmission covers and axle casings, and spray a bit of oil on them before going off-road. (Of course, I'll remind them to thoroughly clean everything off and re-lube after every drive). Rohloff/Schlumpf rocks! Sorry Sturmey, you as well. |
