Who is cycling to CycleVision?
The huge Dutch recumbent event is an easy day's ride from the ferry ports that connect to the UK...
I'll be going out on the ferry from Newcastle North Shields on Thursday the 29th - the ferry arrives in Ijmuiden Friday morning early, and it's an easy 60-mile ride through Amsterdam and out the other side to Lelystad. Then visit CycleVision Saturday and Sunday, camping at 'Oppertje. Then, cycle back to the ferry for Monday evening's sailing, back in Britain early on Tuedsay 3rd May. See Velo Vision 7 for last year's event report...
Anyone else booked in? Would be good to have some company for the ride.

I will see you at CycleVision - but not on the ride there or back as I am going on Thursday 22 and returning on Thursday 5 - as is Paul Stobbs. (Ah! - the luxury of not working - best decision I ever made) |

Four of us are going from Cambridge. We're cycling to Harwich on Thursday the 29th of May, the ferry leaves us in the Hook of Holland early on Friday, and we're cycling to Lelystad during the day.
We're staying at the Lange Jammer, not camping.
Hope to see you there.

I hope it rains and you have a gale force headwind in both directions.
Jealous? Moi? |

For us, that was last year. We got absolutely drenched on the Friday. However, such good fun, I'm going again.

Same here - last year was OK from Ijmuiden through Amsterdam to Muiden, but when we got onto Flevoland we made the mistake of following the west and north coasts - the rain and the wind was fierce and the waves off the Markermeer were breaking across the cycle track at times! (On the return trip we found an inland route which is well sheltered.) |

You wimp John - I thought that was one of the best bits of the journey - the wind turbines on the headland were spectacular (see VV7 page 44 for a pic), and it was certainly an experience... I'll be going that way again I think :-) |

But the difference, you see, is that I am not a masochist! |

There's supposed to be a nice castle at Muiden. |

I'll be in the Cotswolds on a research mission with my Brompton. The highlight last year was meeting up with UK and Euro visitors at the campsite. Eager to hear about wot happens this year from those attending. |

"back in Britain early on Tuedsay 3rd May"
Shurely Shome Mishtake? Methinks that should be "June", otherwise that's a serious amount of time off work! |

3rd June, just in time to bag up and post out the next issue of Velovision |

Hi Jason. If you are researching routes for the bike culture week could you please find some nice gentle ones for aged riders, as I have it on good authority you can be a bit of a sadist at times. |

Jase, I organised a mini-tour round the Cotswolds a few years ago so I can give you some tips for the longest, steepest hills... |

Looks like I'd better fit the old electric assist for this Bike Torture Week. |
From: S. (etc.) on 23 May 2003 |
No, no Wrwick. It'll be a laugh. You'll have a great time.

From: Tom ([email protected]) on 23 May 2003 |
Well, the thinking is for the gentler rides to avoid the 'Hell of the North Cotswolds' routes, but yes, you're right, those who have tried keeping up with an exuberant pedalling Jase have oft suspected him of being nuclear powered... Stockwell Lane anyone? |

Maybe we could get 'Dog Assist' set up in time (see the strand on transporting dogs by trailer). Then riders in need of help could rent a pooch from a local dog's home... |

Hurrah! We hear that Sherri Donaldson successfully completed the 3 hour race stoking a tandem. Bah! We hear that gNick Green's bike broke on the start line (again). |
