York Rally illustrated report

All the fun of the show...

York Rally (they'll have a proper website next year, honest) is the CTC's biggest event, and brings 20 000+ cyclists to York's racecourse every year.

As usual, the Velo Vision 'Punch and Judy' stand was there - with thanks to Mike Burrows and his 8-Freight for helping with the haulage:

We did quite well this year :-)

The ICE boys from Cornwall had brought a serious number of trikes along for visitors to test-ride:

Another very interesting aspect of the show was a summit for emergency services cycling (police, ambulance). Seminars went on throughout the day - I was sorry to miss most of these. Officers had come over from the US to participate, too, where the International Police Mountain Bike Association is well-established. Plenty of police suppliers were also on hand trying to get into the 'cycling equipment' market... including two garish dummies rather looming over our stand!

After that it was the ride off to the pub, as semi-organised by Andy Scaife on the VV website:

I was in the second group to go - the trade tent took a while to close...

Lauren took a nice ride in the Bikefix 8-freight, piloted by mum Denise:

Finally, on Sunday Mike Burrows gave a helping hand to get the stand back to the office: this picture courtesy of Jason Patient Photography:

  • Like that piccie of the ride to the pub on Saturday evening. Your taking-a-photograph-whilst-riding-a-bicycle skills are coming along nicely.

Denise and Mike on the 8-Freights, Mike Perkins, me and Michael McLean at the back but who's riding the trike?

  • looks very much like Mr Dennison to me, which is odd, since by the time the trike got to the pub, it had morphed into a Speemachine bike. Is there no end to the skills of these people.

  • Maybe one year soon, I won't be away for that weekend. Doh! So many Trices!

By the way, the policemen in Southampton really liked the Conference Bike. I did suggest getting one as a squad car - you could arrest 6 crims, handcuff them to the central handlebar, and make them pedal back to the station. A sort of human powered Black Maria.

  • Sue, you should be in marketing.........

  • On the way to the pub Stuart and the Trice man swapped bikes for a while which would explain away the morphing bike.

  • From across the pond in the USA here I want to tell you how much pleasure I get from reading your banter, rants, jokes, etc. Of course, I don't always understand your 'English,' but I'm untutored, so what could one expect.
Some of my friends think I'm easily amused, but all the better for me, I say.
Carry on fellow cylcists, for the joy of all!
