IFMA report
September's second major European trade show finished a few days ago - Ben Cooper of Kinetics reports on some of the highlights from IFMA in Cologne.
Thanks to Ben from Kinetics in Glasgow for this report: they are dealers for HP Velotechnik amongst other things...
New recumbent luggage from HPVelotechnik - side panniers for the StreetMachine and SpeedMachine (though will fit lots of other bikes)...

...and a large tail bag for the Spirit. Available in a month or so:
A pic of the Grasshopper's new seat - adjustable for length and angle, as well as adjustable lumbar support, and much improved air circulation. Very comfy...

Interesting rowbike from the inventor's area...

Folding electric scooter, which stands on end and is very easy to pull behind you:

Single-sided drum brakes from Sturmey Archer. A fixed one with a 10mm axle:
and a QR one with a 14mm axle:

Both available in LH and RH versions, with sealed bearings. Naff pics, sorry...
Two new prototypes from Airnimal on the Pacific stand: A small-wheeled road bike, with aluminium frame and carbon rear triangle. Quite pretty and very light:

SWB aluminium recumbent. No suspension, nicely ovalised main tube. No length adjustment, so built for the rider! Didn't feel very light, but nicely put together:

Airnimal also showed off that recumbent at the York Rally back in June. |

Couple of points.
1. Sorry Seamus, but that was not the bike we had at York. 2. There is seat adjustment - slotted mount on the monotube and angle adjustment at the seat stay mount. 3. weight at present is around 23lbs - production will be lighter. It had tools, leaflets and the massive Taiwan Components Guide in the bag when Ben hefted it. |

Looks nice! As it doesn't feature on your website yet, what sort of price range might my bank manager be looking at? |

How does it live up to the 'Air' part of its name; I mean, how do you fit it in the suitcase? |
From: Ben - Kinetics ([email protected]) on 19 September 2003 |
Oops, yes - it does have some seat adjustment. Still not much though, is it? ;-) Will the production version have more? |
From: Seamus ([email protected]) on 19 September 2003 |
Sorry Richard. Easily confused due to it's similar colour and shape.
For no reason at all the phrase,"fitting a body in a suitcase," has sprung to mind. Wonder what that's all about. |

Answers to questions :- Seamus - no need to apologise, the differences between the 2 are very subtle! Price - can't really be sure at this time, but around Chameleon prices. Adjustment - Quite right Ben. It was made for me to do PBP, so limited adjustment, but not much point going into production like that! The system we are using is simple and works well, but might be a little refined for production. |
