Another multi-story update

KMX prices lower than we said last issue (and they win another prize), Interbike coverage, EUSTAFF Euro relay race completed, CTC launch insurance for cycling events, World Solar Challenge...

  • Apologies to KMX Karts whose trike we reviewed last issue. The retail price is actually £350 - about £50 less than we stated. Apologies.

Meanwhile, belated congratulations to them for winning the "Best New Product" award at the recent Cycle 2003 show in London. Here's Alan (left) and Barry looking pleased with themselves:

  • The Interbike trade show in Las Vegas, USA, has just finished - there's plenty of MTB-style coverage at Singletrack and Bikemagic but the place to go for some definitive recumbent coverage is the Interbike daily report page on BentRiderOnline.

  • Hanno Hirsch from Germany writes to remind me that the EUSTAFF - a recumbent relay ride across Europe - once again ran to a successful conclusion. "All participants had a lot of fun, and there seems to
be high hopes of establishing the Eustaff as a annual carfree "Tour d'Europe" event." This year's ride covered over 2500 km, with 31 teams of riders from many countries achieving this in a remarkable time of 79.5 hours. It even included crossing the Elbe river by human-powered boat... we hope to have a more detailed report in next issue.

  • The UK cycling organisation the CTC has used its influence to put together a package aimed at non-racing cycling event organisers who may be being put off by the increasing difficulty of getting their events insured. More details at http://www.ctc.org.uk/services/INS.aspx. The lack of available insurance has been quoted as the reason that this year's Spokesfest and next year's Cyclefest would be the last: let's hope this might help...

  • Reader 'Karel' writes from Belgium: Maybe a point of interest to put on the website? The world solar challenge in Australia is about to start: www.wsc.org.au. I realise these are not HPVs but think they should definetely should be included in 'the way to go'. They usually have a big 'spaceship' factor but atleast one of the contenders seems to go for a cheaper and possibly practical (even foldable!)design: www.heliodet.de
