CTC offers free training to be a cycle trainer

They've got funding to train up 100 instructors...

This good news press release just in from the CTC:

**
CTC, the national cyclists' organisation, is offering free-of-charge training for those who would like to become professional cycle training instructors.

The project, funded by the Department for Transport, will enable one hundred people to receive CTC-accredited training between January and March 2004.

Potential instructors will need to demonstrate good organisational and personal skills, as well as the ability to cycle competently and confidently in a variety of modern traffic conditions.

Although priority will be given to people who are already supported by an organisation able to provide them with an initial group of clients once they are trained, CTC is happy to help new starters find potential clients and work with their local agencies.

Kieran Flynn, CTC Training Manager, commented: "We believe that training can be instrumental in encouraging more people to cycle regularly - not only is it highly effective in giving novices the boost in confidence they need, but it can help experienced riders to become more proficient."

  • What an excellent idea. I have sent away for an application form for this. Fear and being unconfident in traffic is a major reason for people not cycling.

  • "free" and "CTC" - there are two expressions you don't see together very often ... cynical, moi?

  • Trainng to be a cycle trainer? Does that mean I have to lie down and hold the front forks while grasping the rear spindle between my knees and hope the cranks don't connect with my nether regions? Doesn't sound like much of a deal to me.
