Still places at Bike Right 9.5
This Northumberland event is on 13-15th February: empty roads, big meals and good company beckon...
I'm told that numbers are a bit down this year for some reason and a few spaces are left: contact Philip Stanbury to book in. It's £50 for accommodation at Longridge Towers School and two BIG evening meals (Fri and Sat) and breakfasts (Sat and Sun). There are social-paced rides with nice tea stops Sat and Sun, and plenty of opportunities to gawp at and try (if you ask nicely) interesting bikes.
More about previous events at:
http://www.crispinbennett.freedomnames.co.uk/Bikeright75.htm
and
http://www.crispinbennett.freedomnames.co.uk/Bikeright85.htm
Getting there is easy by train if you can get to the East Coast Main Line - the venue, a girl's boarding school, is just a few miles outside Berwick-upon-Tweed.
To book a place or for more details contact Philip Stanbury on [email protected] or phone 01289 307584.

It's that, "Nobody has said a thing yet ... be the first." that really annoys me.
And all the interesting people that'll be at Bike Right 9 1/2.
And I'll be there. Maybe you'll see yourself in Velovision or BKN.
And it's my birthday on the 13th (all presents gratefully accepted);-)

Have fun everyone - it's on a weekend I can't make. Still I plan to make it cyclefest this year (given portents of doom for the future I'd better make this one).
Anyone planning on cycling from York area to Lancaster?

An unfortunate rumour regarding everyone being press ganged in to giving Seamus the Birthday bumps has kept folk away. Back breaking stuff. A birthday booze up with Mr King is going to be the event highlight. |
From: Legs Larry (@ etc) on 27 January 2004 |
Oh no! I share a birthday with Seamus. What am I to do? |
From: Antony (at pedalcars dot info) on 27 January 2004 |
Copy the Queen and have an official birthday later in the year. |
From: Tom ([email protected]) on 27 January 2004 |
Larry, you're not alone; that's my birthday too! If we all turn up in the same pub will there be some kind of explosion? |
From: S. (etc) on 27 January 2004 |
How very bizarrely coincidental that three such illuminaries as ourselves should share the date of birth.
Any more?
Maybe Pete should do an article on us. |
From: Seamus (etc) on 27 January 2004 |
Oops!
That should, of course, have been, "talented illuminaries." |
From: Conspiracy expert (blackhelicopters@dawn) on 27 January 2004 |
Er, Seamus, I think you may mean 'luminaries'. 'Illuminaries' sounds suspiciously as if you three may be part of the global conspiracy known as the Illuminati. Which is unlikely, as I suspect they don't ride bicycles much. |
From: It's a conspiracy (Or maybe not) on 27 January 2004 |
Or perhaps you specialise in light fittings:
www.illuminaries.com
or you could even be a software company:

Isn't Google marvellous :-) |

"The Pilgrims of Saint Michael firmly believe that the nucleus of all evil stems from those who control the monies of the world, whom we generally refer to as the International Bankers. But one word we seldom here about, much less understand, is the Illuminati."
Dunno. They sound like cyclists to me. Probably ride 'bents.
|
From: evil smiley (;-)) on 27 January 2004 |
sorry. pasted the wrong bit.
"The Illuminati are elite men, those on the top, who control the International Bankers to control, for evil purposes, the entire world. " |
From: Legs Larry (etc.) on 28 January 2004 |
Since the Illuminati are supposed to hang out around Ingolstadt, I think it more likely that they drive Audis. The "Illuminatus Trilogy" by Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson is required reading. |

Where is everybody? I've had to start going to the Cycling+ forum for chit chat...
Anyone going to be on the 7.30ish am train from York on the 13th, going to Bikerite? |
From: ? (?@hotmail) on 03 February 2004 |
Course the real issue at Bike Rite aint the Big S's birthday, it's who's gonna get most Valentines Cards on Saturday morning. |
From: Seamus (etc) on 03 February 2004 |
Ayup Susanah. What's your handle on Cycling+? Bet you can't guess mine.
For a while there it was beginning to look like I'd be unable to attend Bike Right 91/2 but luckily I can.
Unfortunately the only train I can make it is around 5 o'clock from Doncaster and pay full whack (for the first time ever). Summat to do with fracky schools half-term holidays (bloomin' teachers and there 13 weeks holiday and they only do 51/2 hours a day) |
From: sue (Arch) ([email protected]) on 03 February 2004 |
Ayup Seamus! Your question is answered above. You, I'm guessing, are 'Seamus'. And if you're going to insist on using my proper name, it's two 'n's in the middle... ;-)
See you at Bikerite! |
From: S (etc) on 04 February 2004 |
Sorry Suky;-) |

:-P (It's supposed to be someone sticking their tongue out...) |
From: Steve (Pedaldog) ([email protected]) on 04 February 2004 |
soooooo.... Starts on Friday the 13th does it??
|
From: Crispin ([email protected]) on 06 February 2004 |
"Course the real issue at Bike Rite aint the Big S's birthday, it's who's gonna get most Valentines Cards on Saturday morning." Oh no !! Every year I come away from BikeRight with my saddlebag bursting at the seams with unwanted junk, and it doesn't look like it will be any different this year :-(
Cycling Plus Forum - please go and diss the February issue in the Office section. It will make me feel better !
|
From: S, (etc) on 06 February 2004 |
Doubtless you'll have noticed I already have done so. |
From: Seamus King ([email protected]) on 12 February 2004 |
Suppose I'd better start thinking about packing for the trip.
Borrowed a dinky, little camera off big sister so perhaps by next Monday I'll have the piccies up on the 'net and maybe BKN 20 (MY GOD! TWENTY!!) in it's crudite form.
Bet Crispin'll be the first Bike Righter to have the piccies up.
Note To Self; pump up front tyre. |
From: Peter Eland ([email protected]) on 12 February 2004 |
Unfortunately I've decided that I can't go to Bike Right after all - have entered serious deadline panic for Issue 13 and a weekend away just now isn't a good plan. If anyone would like my place (free - all paid for!) please get in touch. I also have a non-refundable train ticket from York to Berwick for tomorrow (Friday, dep. 12:55, return on sunday 17:15) which you'd be welcome to - but it would have to be picked up from me in York tomorrow (Fri) morning.
Sorry to miss it folks, hope all who go have a great time! |
From: Crispin ([email protected]) on 13 February 2004 |
Well - my Bikeright report is already written. Just have to turn up and get some photos ! Corr - talk about deadline pressure. Crispin :-) |
From: S (etc) on 13 February 2004 |
Hmm. I could have Pete's free place and try to get my money back off Philip (as if) or how about two dinners and breakfasts? |
From: Roger the Hilldodger (@cyclemagic) on 13 February 2004 |
Wish I'd known yesterday! I'm winding loads of people up on the C+ site and could do with (a) some decent company and (b) somewhere to hide :-) |

Nice page Crispin. Those purple gloves have got to go!
Trevor (Jason's brother) and Sharon (Trev's girly) won the spot-the-difference quiz (the one that Jason set). Did anyone else observe Trev & Sharoron handing in their answer sheet LAST after Jase had marked all the others at the table the 3 of them were sitting?
Bike Right 10's Quiz will be set by me and if all goes to plan no-one will get any of the answers. If you thought the one about what Charlie Kelly does for a living was hard, think again. |
