Issue 14 is out

and back issue prices also reduced...

Mailing issue 14 now - and while updating the online shop have also reduced prices somewhat for back issues.

See the Issue 14 preview story for an idea of the contents, and the online shop to order a subscription or back issues :-)

Errata: The phone number for the Aufa hub dynamo on page 57 is wrong - it should be 01473 259 853, not as printed. Apologies.

  • No comments yet along the lines of "where's my copy then?". So I'll say it. "Where's my copy then?" Oh, hang on, I'm not a subscriber, I just read Tom's...

  • Saturday morning-mail man has been! Ooops, no Velovision, John.

  • From: Simon Ward ([email protected]) on 12 June 2004
  • Morning mail?
You lucky bugger - it's usually early afternoon by the time my post arrives. Mind you, it doesn't matter as I'm usually at work ;-)

  • From: John Turvey ([email protected]) on 13 June 2004
  • well, has nobody got their Velovision yet? Posted on Thursday, so, even with the high speed of the modern postal service, someone should have got a copy by Saturday.

  • From: John Shackford ([email protected]) on 14 June 2004
  • Monday-mail has arrived.Usual pile of junk mail.NO Velovision.Peter just tells us its on the way, to 'wind us up' ready.
    John.

    hmmm-hmmm-hmmm.

    That's me waiting patiently.

    John.

  • HMMM-HMMM-HMMM-HMMM,

    HMMM-HMMM.

    Less patiently waiting now.

  • From: Arch (@ work) on 15 June 2004
  • Ah, new advertising slogan "Velovision - Something for the weekend". (for overseas readers - "Something for the weekend sir?" used to be how discreet barbers enquired whether their clients wanted to buy any condoms)

  • From: Antony (at pedalcars dot info) on 15 June 2004
  • Hmmm hmmm hmmm hmmm...

That's the sound of me being very smug. Got home from Edinburgh on Monday night (Red Hot Chili Peppers excellent, by the way - cause for even more smugness) to find VV waiting for me.

So not only had it arrived, it was sitting there unread for some time while certain other subscribers were twiddling their thumbs waiting...

    Sorry!

    ;)

Its good to be reading again after so long apart!
Best regards, especially to all who have not received there issue yet!!!!!! John..............

  • For those that like waiting.. Hot News.. VeloVision Issue 15 is being mailed now :-) so stand by your letterboxes...

  • From: CaptBeardy ([email protected]) on 16 June 2004
  • I recon that the mail coach to east anglia has been held up by Dick Turpin. And I've just found out that I'm not collecting my new bke tomorrow as expected, so I'd better get some reading material, otherwise there's going to be blood spilt.

  • From: Seamus (etc) on 16 June 2004
  • well the mail has been late every day for the past few months so maybe, just maybe I'll have the Velovision to look forward to when I get home.

  • From: John Turvey ([email protected]) on 16 June 2004
  • Not here when I got home at 10:30 pm yesterday, so I was sure it would be here when i got home at 7:30 pm today but not so - though I note thet Peter has cunningly changed the date of the message saying 'Mailing issue 14 now' to 14 June - sure it was several days earlier originally!

  • From: Peer Gynt driver (db@home) on 16 June 2004
  • Wed 16th. The Velovision distribution finally reaches Cheltenham. Was the postman walking from York?

  • From: S (etc) on 17 June 2004
  • My postcode is S66 7LX

    NOT SG6 7LX

  • From: Arch (now@oneyearolder) on 17 June 2004
  • We were told the wrong postcode when we moved to Leicester and we used it for a year and everything got through...

We've got two latest issues knocking about at home. I guess for the highest bidder we could express deliver them by helicopter...

  • From: S (etc) on 17 June 2004
  • how ya getting on with the 'bent bike building Arch?

  • From: Leicester's most handsome (cycling historian) on 17 June 2004
  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ARCH!! Did you make your breakfast date with a well known cycling photographer?

  • From: Arch (@afunnyage) on 17 June 2004
  • Thank you RtH, yes we had a delicious Tesco breakfast (we pretended it was our Bike Week Biker's Breakfast) 6 items for £1.49. Cheap! And a very pleasant evening spent in your company yesterday...

As for the 'bent building... Not much progress. Well, none. Somehow, at the end of the day, I just want to get home, and all the 'bent bits are at work. The last bit I did was jigsaw the seat, and I discovered how hard it is to jigsaw something at an angle as opposed to something flat. So know I need to do a lot of sanding...

  • From: S (etc) on 17 June 2004
  • .. so we'll have to wait three months for the next gripping installment of 'bent bike building;-)

  • From: Arch (looking@fortyinthedistance) on 17 June 2004
  • ...unless I ride into a tree, in which case you'll get a story about bent bike rebuilding...

I built my first wheel last week. Fun! I wonder if it'll work...

  • From: jojo ([email protected]) on 17 June 2004
  • Cycling+ 1(arrived today) Velovision 0 (might come tomorrow)- God! I hate football!!!!

  • From: John Shackford (jrsathome.co.uk) on 17 June 2004
  • Thursday 17th 18:45 Finished reading my Velovision! It was not too bad. Actually Ive even read the advertisements too. I think I will read some of it again but A to B is out this weekend so a change of material from the sublime Velovision to the Ridiculous!
    All the best,
    John.

  • From: John Turvey ([email protected]) on 17 June 2004
  • Arrived today (at last!))

  • From: Mary Arneson (sitting@homeW/oVelovision) on 18 June 2004
  • Local re-seller doesn't have VV in yet, but I'm hoping for tomorrow or early next week. They still have plenty of the last issue with the crabby triker, though.

  • From: Scott ([email protected]) on 19 June 2004
  • VV 14 arrived in Detroit, MI USA on Friday June 18.

  • Does anyone know whatever happened to the Orbit Crystal (Ross) recumbent, it was a cheap and cheerful little machine. Or is there a modern day equivalent, short of boiling some more brass and melting some Cromo ?

  • From: Rob ([email protected]) on 22 June 2004
  • Mine arrived yesterday unexpectedly! Thanks Peter. Now just to get some time to read something from it :-)

  • From: Wobbly John ([email protected]) on 22 June 2004
  • Andy; The last I heard was that Ben at Kintetics had the rights to build and sell the Ross/Orbit and had a few frames.

  • From: Ben - Kinetics ([email protected]) on 24 June 2004
  • I've got a couple of unpainted frames I got from Peter - one is fine, the other has an interesting bulge in the centre where the framebuilder obviously tried to realign it ;-) Also got some front booms, seat frames (for the cushion based seat), dropouts, that kind of thing. If any of it is any use to anyone, I'd be happy to get rid of it...
