Monza Autodrome, Italy, to host third Euro Pedalcar Champs in June 2005

And up to 50,000 spectators are expected to be on hand to watch, say the hosts from Karbyk...

This press release (lightly edited) just in from Karbyk, makers of four-wheeled race vehicles and leading international participants in pedalcar racing:

******

To all fans of to Pedal Cars

We are happy to announce that the 3rd European Championship of Pedal Cars will take during the 30th Festival of Sport on the famous and fascinating Italian Autodrome of Monza.

Note that this event is second only to the Formula 1 Grand Prix for the number of visitors, estimated at around 45000-50000, all of whom have the possibility to see, and in some cases also to try, more than 60 different sports distributed across the whole Park that surrounds the Autodrome.

The date is still being finalised but it will definitely be either the 2nd or 3rd Sunday of June 2005 - this is obviously due to awaiting confirmation of motor races scheduled on the autodrome. Final dates will probably be communicated later this year.

We ask other pedal car organisations therefore to note these dates in your National Race Calendars, in the hope of meeting many of you at this special event.

As regards the running of the event, we will announce in the next months schedules and types of race. Races will take place in special areas marked off in the box-paddock zone) and we will probably include a nighttime run too!

Particular attention will be paid to hospitality for the teams coming from other European Nations.

We await your presence for an unforgettable weekend!

  • We're now into the planning stage of getting a number of people and cars to Monza.

It is going to cost a fair bit, so any offers of assistance gratefully received.

For example, if anyone has a large van that we could use to get to Italy and back, that might help as it would allow most of the rest of the party to fly. Said van would need to be able to accomodate at least three people (as drivers) and an as-yet-unknown number of pedal cars (hopefully four to six).

Failing that, it's several thousand pounds and at least 24 hours each way on an executive coach, which I'd personally rather avoid!

  • Email got trimmed in the above post - all offers of assistance gratefully received at webmaster at pedalcars.info

PS. Since Jeremy Clarkson "proved" that the "best" way to get to the south of France was by car, maybe he could finance a fleet of Aston DB9s for us? Granted, the pedalcars on their roof racks would kill the aerodynamics, but I'm sure Aston wouldn't mind the press coverage...

  • Nah, for France you want the Citroen DS - beautiful, classic and very swooshy. I understand half of Cyclemagic has most of one. If I had a lorry to offer, I would...

  • Citroen CX Safari will likely swallow a pedal car whole (but would then break down halfway across France).
