Vuelta cycling animation on the way...
Could the Japanese animation "Nasu: Summer in Andalusia" be the next Belleville Rendez-Vous?
Thanks to Tim Kirk for pointing out this review:
http://www.midnighteye.com/reviews/nasu.shtml
This describes how Nasu: Summer in Andalusia, from the highly-regarded animation director of Hayao Miyazaki's wonderful Spirited Away, was the first Japanese animation to be selected for the Cannes film festival. The film follows Pele, a rider in the Vuelta stage race in Spain, and the consequences of his encounter with an old flame as the race passes through his home town.
But the review also mentions that the film, from Kitaro Kosaka is an unconventional 47 minutes long, which may mean it's one to watch out for on DVD rather than in your local cinema.

Right, I've added it to the Cycling Films Big List and included Peter and Tim in the useful contributors bit.

Ta Seamus. Incidentally Velorution:
http://velorution.blogspot.com/
has picked up on the story and also has links to the downloadable trailer and to DVD buying sites - it's already available - but, as Tim pointed out to me, be sure to check there are subtitles/dubbing available in a language you can understand. |

Hi Seamus,
Can't see these Belgian classics in your movie list :-
"Le Vélo de Ghislain Lambert"
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0252665/
Or "Sunday in Hell"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000A2Y0M/qid%3D1089655208/202-3206981-6561406
Worth having a look.
Best regards

PPS Look closely at the crank of the bike on the cover of "Le Vélo de Ghislain Lambert". Something wrong there!

Who invented the CAPS LOCK key and were they ever stoned to death?
"Sunday in Hell," is a racing film and I try to have nowt to do with such stuff 'cos there's lots of sites listing such stuff already.
I don't do any of those repetetive mountainbiking films either.
Many have commented on that particular oddity of, "Le Velo de Gislain Lambert." It's odd how the drive is on reversed but the wording on his shirt isn't |
