Trike tidings
ICE knock £100 off their budget models, and Spitfire trike makers Hellbent Cycles in the USA is up for sale...
ICE PRICE
Cornwall-based recumbent trike makers ICE are cutting £100 off the price of their 'budget' range of trikes (we reveiwed one, the ICE T, in Issue 16), at which point it cost £1599. In their own words:
*** A happy new year from all at ICE and just to kick the year off to a good start, we have reduced the price of our standard range of very competitive ICE trikes:
ICE L [for smaller riders-Ed] ICE Q ['Quick'] and QNT [narrow-track version] ICE S [with hardshell seat] ICE T [higher seat for touring].
Retail price for all of these is now £1,499.00 inc VAT In the USA that is approx $2,423.90 + local sales taxes In the EU that is approx 1,834.70 Euro + local VAT Prices are including rear mudguard, rear carrier, flag and mirror. Also included are all the delivery costs including import duty if applicable in the UK/EU and USA, other countries please ask ICE. By standardisation, in house batch manufacture and buying power we have managed to make these reductions and we've even increased the detailed parts specification in some areas. These trikes are all available from stock right now and we plan to maintain that situation throughout the season. ***
Spitfire makers up for sale
According to a report at BentriderOnline's Stop the Presses page it seems that Hellbent Cycles, who make a rather fine recumbent trike called the Spitfire, are looking for a buyer to take over and develop the business. Fancy a new career in the bike trade? You'll need mechanical ability and, presumably, some funds to invest. The page on the Hellbent website announcing the sale gives more details.

The Trice gets closer and closer... How long do I sit it out and wait for the price to drop...?
No, I can't justify that kind of money at the moment. But maybe soon... |

How long to sit it out? Well I got my Trice Q last November and since then they have introduced more models, upgraded the components and dropped the price. Therefore, I suggest you wait a couple of months by which time there will be another 78 models to choose from all at £12 each. |

I wish! I know, it must be very vexing when that happens. It's like buying a computer, you spend ages working out what you want, and in the time between it being delivered and you getting it plugged in, it's gone out of date... |

I feel the same as Arch. I was impressed by the model Q I saw at the Islington show: the model S looks even more appealing. For what it's worth, the trike strikes me as a more logical format for a recumbent than the bike. Perhaps that's because I learned to ride so long ago! |

If you want a budget trike consider the KMX X Class; it's a good entry level machine that does all it promises - with great service from KMX. Great fun on the road too!

Ah, but I want a budget trike... and it has to be a Trice! I also liked the Q best, until I saw the S. I can wait... |

I agree with John. The KMX is the only one I've actually RIDDEN, and it does go well. But I fancy the TRice a lot more!!!!!!...... |

I've noticed that since the discussion forum went up, no-one's had much to say about the stories - shows how off-topic we all are... |
