Roundup revisitedMore catch-up news: BKN22 is out, Catrike owner's Rally in US in Feb, more Mezzo folding bike details, ICE tail fairing and other news, Leicester's Cycling Film Festival attracts top animators, Velorution moves, and free PDF downloads of both old Netherlands HPV Club mags and samples issues of RCN... BKN 22 is out Seamus King's webzine has hit its 22nd issue: read it here or here. Seamus says "There's News (actually old news), some nice piccies from the summer, Bike Right 10, a whole chapter from. "3 Men on a Bummell", a very hard cycling quiz, letters, Coming Events etc..." Catrike Rally launched US trike manufacturer Catrike writes: *** We are pleased to announce the first of what we hope will be an annual event here in Winter Garden Florida. We are inviting all CATRIKE enthusiasts for a celebration of the CATRIKE way. This will be very informal gathering scheduled for the first weekend of February (4th, 5th, & 6th). The weather down here is normally very pleasant that time of year. Among some of the attractions along the trail is the Oakland Nature Preserve with foot trails leading down to Lake Apopka (the second largest lake in Florida). Winter Garden has a very nice community park along the shores of Lake Apopka, which would be ideal for picnics and just relaxing in the sun. For those who wish to do some road riding there are some very scenic and low traffic routes that can be accessed from the trail some of which feature some very challenging climbs (yes we do have hills in Florida, real ones!) there are two in particular that have stunning panoramic views of Lake Apopka. Steve will be leading a ride Saturday morning on the West Orange Trail after which Paulo will give a tour of the plant which will give you all a chance to see where the CATRIKES are made. Afterwards we will be hosting a casual get-together at J.R's Attic Door which is a favorite gathering spot for cyclists on the trail. There will not, of course be a charge for the ride or plant tour. If one is interested in attending or has any questions or need for further information please feel free to contact us at [email protected]. *** We'll have a Catrike Pocket in for test before long incidentally. More Mezzo details In the comments for our Brompton gears story Mike Smithson notes in part: *** http://www.chwhite.btinternet.co.uk/html/mezzo_d_9.html Having played about with one at Condor Cycles this is going to be the first serious competition the Brommie has had to face. Same price as an T6 - but with 9 gears and 3lb lighter - and much faster unfolding. Not ridden it yet though. *** The website he quotes above has considerably more/better pics than were available when we wrote the VV16 report. The official Mezzo Bikes website at www.mezzobikes.com is still pretty minimal. ICE tail fairing and belated extra model news, York Rally report BentriderOnline's Stop the Presses page has a pic of an ICE trike with an attractive-looking tail fairing, which they reckon will cost in the region of £250. The same page also has news of new Catrike UK pricing, about which I will also be informed shortly no doubt... As you'll have read in VV16, trike makers ICE have expanded their 'budget' range with a narrow-track Q - the QNT, and a hard-shell-seat model, the Trice S, plus a smaller version for shorter riders, the Trice L. All are still £1600 in the UK, inc VAT. Also new on their site is a link on their events page to a report on the York Cycle Show 2004 - lots of nice pics! Leicester Cycling Film Festival attracts top animators They write: *** Two world-class digital film animators will lead a workshop for budding film-makers and fans as part of the next Leicester Bike Film Festival. Animators Cyril Fernandez and Simon McKeown will support the 4th annual festival with a chance to find out about the latest in computer animation, get behind the scenes of your favourite characters or learn how to bring your own film characters to life. The workshop will take place along with a selection of animated bike films from around the world. French animator Cyril Fernandez worked on the award-winning film Belleville Rendezvous and introduced the film to last year's festival in Leicester. Simon McKeown leads on digital animation for Teesside University and with over sixteen years experience is a veteran of film, TV and Playstation animation. Bike Film Festival Organiser and film-maker Stewart Charles said "This is an excellent chance to find out about cutting edge animation from two people directly involved in the industry. Fellow Festival Organiser Andy Salkeld said "We'll also premier six new local films, screen the latest extreme bike sport films, vintage films, bike art, documentaries, have live music and BMX demonstrations. The 4th Leicester Bike Film Festival takes place from 27th to 29th May 2005 at Phoenix Art Theatre, Leicester. The Film Festival is part of wider 'Ride Leicester' Events the same weekend that include, Park Sessions BMX, Bike IT Cycle Training, Vintage Rides, Special Needs machines, Skateboarding and Skating in Leicester's Abbey Park. Local clubs, bike projects or volunteers who want to get involved in the Film Festival can contact the organisers by email at [email protected] or contact Andy Salkeld (Bike Film Festival Co-ordinator) c/o Phoenix Art, Newarke Street, Leicester. *** Velorution moves server The excellent Velorution blog, run by Andrea Casalotti also of Workbike.org and London couriers and workbike specialists ZERO, is now at http://www.velorution.biz/blog rather than the old blogspot address. They request links and bookmarks be updated. PDF magazine bonanza Velo Vision offers a few free PDF downloads of articles on our previous issues page (I'll update it soon, honest) and we've mentioned the Human Power archives already. Now the Netherlands HPV Club have offered old issues of their 'HPV Nieuws' as free PDFs from this directory - you'll need a fast connection, as file sizes are large. Issues from 1984 to 1996 are available. Thanks to this ligfiets.net report for the link. Also, this ligfiets.net story points out that our colleages at the long-established US recumbent magazine Recumbent Cyclist News have put up three full issues (and a few other articles) at their samples page. RCN gained invaluable publicity recently in the UK when it was featured on the satirical TV show 'Have I Got News For You' as the 'Guest publication'. Posted on 05 January 2005 Your comments ...
