 Radio 4 programme

I believe Radio 4's "Changing Places" programme will feature cycling in York at 3pm the afternoon as part of a feature on the National Cycle Network ..

Prompted by this, I was thinking how nice it is to cycle in York most of the time. Then this morning I had a passenger door opened across the bike lane I was travelling along, and a van come across my path at a junction so closely that I was able to reach out and slap the side (Tried to make eye contact with the driver as I came alongside, but the van had tinted windows). And two days ago, I had to shout to get the attention of a driver pulling out of a side road, who was too busy looking at an accident that had just happened (bike paramedic in attendance), in which it appeared a cyclist had been knocked off by a car coming out of the same side road. Is it something in the water all of a sudden?

Interestingly, when i suggested that the person who had opened the door checked the mirror next time, his said something along the lines of "Why? Cyclists don't." I think this was an attempt at the usual gripes about red lights and pavements (I'm horribly law abiding in these circumstances), but I have to admit, I have never looked in my wing mirror before opening the doors on my bike...

You'll be safer in Leicester this weekend and becoming a film star too.

The world's most handsome cycling historian. Probably.

Leicester's 4th best Les Gray impersonator.
