 it all goes in circles...

Remember my ramblings on the Raleigh Superbe which is now back 'in the loop' after years we know not where?
Well, I recently came across a Bickerton at the tip, and have advertised it on VV. I still have it.
Cut to a night scene in early January, i arrived at one of my lock-ups (a council garage) to find the two next door with open doors - forced open. One contained many old bikes and motorcycles. I shut the doors and secured them, (after admiring a lovely panther and sidecar!), One garage belonged to the landlord of the Tap & Spile (gNick please note!) but nobody knew whose garage was the bicycle-filled one.
This Saturday I arrived there to find the tenant in the garage. a member of our Quaker meeting whom I didn't know was into bikes. We discussed the curious incident of the door in the night time, and he told me that a Bickerton was among several MTB and touring bikes stolen. The Bick belonged to a staff member at Cycle Heaven, another Quaker.
Hmmmmmmmmmm! Can it really be that the Bick now in my garage is the one stolen from the garage next door? Do they have a homing instinct?

Alas, I suspect it's not as spooky as all that:

A Bickerton is apparently not a good bike to ride, if you value rigidity and straight lines..

The thief had one go on it, and dumped it... (or sold it to someone who did the same)

You get all the bikes at the tip...

Ain't rigid logical thinking dull?

Andy Lazarou, "You my Bik now."

Keep quiet about it and hope yor friend doesn't use the Velovision discussion list.

No, no, tell him you've found one recently.

If he doesn't match the frame number of yours exactly then keep it.

Seems the timing was wrong anyway. The theft was after I found mine.
The other chap didnt know the frame number, but had lost interest in it and couldn't care less, thus if it was his, nobody's bothered. Karmas all intact.
There is an advertiser in AtoB magazine, who specialises in Bicks, but I couldn't get a reply from him. Mine has, i must admit, worked a certain charm on me! It's hard to deny that it's a cute little thing, and it is fantastically light! I sometimes nip into town on it, and it does put a smile on my face (and those of observers usually).
I'm waiting to see if Tom comes up with some interesting old bike to trade for it.
The 'Lazarou' tag has struck though! i used it when liberating a dutch roadster from the tip on sunday, and the guys there are all doing it now! Soon as I lift a bike up, they're all there "You MY bike now!".

P.S. anyone want a Dutch ladies roadster?

"P.S. anyone want a Dutch ladies roadster?"

Depends how scary the Dutch lady is, and whether she's likely to come after me...

No. No, I don't. I'm already wondering how I'm going to fit my five current bikes into the kind of flat I'm likely to be able to afford this summer...

Another circle...
I was offered a part-ex for a hybrid I sold last week. "An old racer". Yesterday I went to pick it up, and it was none other than the ex-'cyclone couriers' Dawes Giro 300 on which i did many a mile when I first came to york! Hello old friend.
