ICE launch low-cost trikes
Just £1599 gets you the new entry-level recumbent trike from the Cornwall craftsmen...
Inspired Cycle Engineering from Cornwall, UK, are one of the best-known recumbent trike makers around - but until now the £2400+ prices of their machines have made them unaffordable to many. And with lower-priced alternatives springing up from various of their competitors, ICE have responded.
There are two machines available, both at £1599 inc VAT, and they differ mainly in the seat height - there's a lower, sportier ICE Q model:
and a higher, more upright version for touring, the ICE T:
As you'll see from the press release below, the new models retain many of the features of the current Trice range. What you don't get is the customisation options available on their other machines: there's no colour choice (red for the 'Q', sky blue for the 'T') and as it's a standard frame size, the new models are only recommended for riders up to 18 stone (252 lbs, 115 kg) and between approx 5'2" (1.57m) and 6' 2"(1.88m) in height. Anyone outside that range will have to go for one of their other models, which can be built to fit.
Although they come already fitted with rack, rear mudguard, mirror and flag, most riders will want to add front mudguards (£45 inc VAT). Further accessories are detailed in price lists - linked to from the Q and T webpages.
We hope to have one of these machines in on test for Velo Vision very shortly. ICE also hope to have them available for Lancaster's Cyclefest in just over a week's time.

PRESS RELEASE
Due to overwhelming customer demand, ICE, one of the world's most experienced and highly respected recumbent manufacturers, is launching two new models based on the Trice XL and Trice Explorer, but with one BIG difference, the price!!
At £1,599.00 inc.17.5% VAT (sales Tax) (approx. USD $2,866 inc. shipping and Taxes, EURO 2,500 inc. shipping and taxes) these machines are incredibly good value for money.
The new ICE models are the ICE Q (Quick), based on the XL, and ICE T (Tour), based on the Explorer. These models come as standard with the following features that you would expect from ICE trikes:
a.. ICE's superb steering geometry for unbeatable handling
b.. Angle adjustable seats for personally tuned comfort
c.. Reach adjustable handlebars to ensure the perfect fit
d.. Frames that split for transportation.
e.. The frames are still hand built in the UK by ICE, using their 'trade mark' fillet brazed and lugged construction.
f.. For guaranteed durability ICE are using T45 and Columbus Cro-Mo tubing throughout.
g.. Almost all of ICE's incredibly wide range of accessories can be fitted to the new machines.
h.. The machines are equipped with excellent components like Sturmey Archer drum brakes and a SRAM/Shimano drive train.
i.. Rear rack, rear mudguard, mirror and flag all included in the price.
So what's new about the ICE Q and ICE T? Obviously the price is a big change for ICE. They gave been designed from the ground up to make them excellent value for money. The frames of each model have been standardised and they are assembled in small batches with components carefully chosen for their durability and function. A quick look and a short test ride is all you will need to appreciate the ICE know-how that has gone into these great value trikes.

Well, the past few years were obviously not a waste of time. First came the Club Sport, then the GT3 and now these hansome QTies. Affordable trikes are becoming a reality, not just my dream! |

Nice. Anyone know what ICE T thinks about having a trike named after him? And once the ICE T has an established market, will there be an LL COOL J model?

Don't be so daft! The next model will be called "Vanilla" to be closely followed by the new model "Baby".
Vanilla Ice was born Robert Van Winkle on October 31st, 1968 in Miami. Vanilla Ice exploded onto the rap music scene in 1990 with the smash single "Ice Ice Baby".
Now you know.

And in the words of Coolio (when asked whether white men could rap), "Vanilla Ice could say words over music, sure..."

Oh, I want one. If I blew my entire last salary cheque, and added a couple of hundred, I could have one, but alas, I need to eat and pay rent. Sigh. Maybe if the doctorate funding comes through... |

...which it didn't. Sigh. I'll have to get a proper job instead... |

I get teh idea these trikes are aimed at the american market, or ICE have started employing an american body writer or maybe they're just designed for london cyclists ;)
On the ICE T page:
This machine manoeuvres easily and is beautifully comfortable on uneven pavement

I'll be dropping in on them in a couple of days...I'll ask. Just as soon as I can drag my daughter away from the surfing and back on the tandem. Course, that also means I'll have ridden one before you lot! Ha! I'm in cornwall you are not...doo-dah...doo-dah.... |

Having determined to scrimp and save up for a Trice, I get alternative PhD funding after all! Give it 6 months and I could just blow £1600 on an Ice Q! But... would I be seen as a poor relation in the Trice world? Would I really rather have a Micro? And suppose by the time I've saved up for that, they've brought out something more desirable? I mean, if I want to save for ever, there's that sub-25Kg one they had at CycleFest... Choices, choices.... |

Detailed review of the T (complete with bad pun in the title) coming up in VV 15, off to the printer very shortly indeed. VV15 preview should be up shortly... |
