Cycles Max team on Scrapheap Challenge this Sunday
Tune in to UK's Channel 4 at 18:30 on Sunday 12th Sept to see the rickshaw-makers in action
I've just been informed that Scrapheap Challenge on Channel 4 this Sunday at 18:30 will feature a team from pedicab manufacturer Cycles Maximus.
Tune in to see how they got on!

And they won! The challege was to fire a projectile at a dam, it had to bounce. Theirs was like a huge clay pigeon trap.
The other team towed a trolley using a winch, when the trolley stopped the projectile was supposed to continue - not very successful though. |

Well I presume we will see the team again in the semi-finals, or whatever comes next. their performance in the heat (compared with other teams in the series and their own opposition) stands them in good stead. They were just so 'together' and efficient. I suppose this is a result of their work in producing a high quality product for a safety-critical market. There was some good footage of the guys riding Maxima as well. obviously the producers couldn't resist patronising and laughing at the 'wacky' rickshaws, but it's supposed to be an eccentric show anyway. I will now have to keep my daughter away from Paul if we ever go to Bath! |

I met the Cycles Max people three years ago at the Spezi in Germarsheim. I liked the design of their Trike very much, except that the bottom chain tensioner was giveing them a bit of a problem at the time. Nice group of people who I had a long chat with, weil trying to help them fix the tensioner.

Massively impressed by the performance - the first team ever to complete the project within the allotted 10 hours. Not just by a little, either, but by enough time to sit around drinking tea and contemplating helping the other team.
Looking forward to seeing them in the next round.

Knowing what i know of the Maximus posse, can we be sure it was acually *tea* they were drinking? Just where did they stash the beer barrel? |

Well they did seem to have rather an abundant supply of empty barrels! I'm sure we all realise that the 'Scrapheap' is actually created for the prog, and is 'seeded' with the materials the teams will need (I took part in a pilot many years ago), but Maximus' choice of projectile was singularly apt! I've ridden thousands of miles on Maximus trikes, carrying everything from 250kilos of books up a cobbled hill, to four screaming children on two wheels (!) and I think vvvthey surely qualify as a Design Classic of the cycling world. There were driveshaft probs early on, and the early bodies were not the best, and there is still some shimmy if you loosen your grip too much, but they're the daddies! good luck Guys!!!! |
