I'd post a stimulating debate on cycle promotion, but I've had a hard week full of it and I'd only say something libelous.
So may I suggest we reprise Andy Scaife's shed census, last seen on the VV forum in '02, to get an idea of the machines owned by VV readers?
Feel free to list your other amusing locations for the velos in your life. Fleet/business users, declare your interests, lest you make the rest of us feel inadequate. (Mssrs Scaife and Turvey will do that for us anyway). Related non-velo machinery, (milling machines, thread rollers, whiskey stills), can be included as well, but no automotiva please, lest this string degenerate into an unseemly brawl.
So: What's in yer shed?

Hi Tom,
Here's my shed contents:
1 x 1999 Brompton T5 Mk2
1 x Cresswell Micro 3 speed (the wife's) about five years old, bought used from AtoB small ads.
1 x 2002 Phillips tandem with Michelin Wildgripper City tyres (in place of original mountain bike knobblies) and mudguards.
1 x 2003 Giant OCR 4 road bike, fitted with mudguards, lights and computer and set up as a fast tourer rather than a racer.
I hope to add a lightweight mountain bike in '05 and try a bit of mud-plugging. Then if finances allow, I'd love an ICE trike - maybe the new S?
Watch this space!
SP.

Well, you know better than me Riley, but here goes...
Mithras, the city hack. Always on the verge of getting a service. Halfords Apollo ladies frame and rack, everything else replaced. Lots of speeds, of which I use about 3. Snoopy hooter ;-)
Mercury, the auction bargain Dawes Galaxy. Resprayed blue with silver extremities. Mostly original kit, but a stump neck stem on account of my short arms. May even switch to flatter bars, as I'm never down on the drops...
Mephistopheles (aka Miss Wicked) Giant FCR frame, with most of the kit replaced and handbuilt wheels (32 spoke Tom Ritchie hubs, mavic rims)(front one built by me, back one by Riley). Added rack and mudguards. Very skinny.
Ma'am, the 1930's-ish ladies loop frame. Awaiting a dose of grate blacking, some new tubes and an appropriate outfit for me.
The Bomber, a 1969 Raleigh gents roadster. A touch too big, very little in the way of brakes, and should be indoors, but isn't. 1 gear (supposed to be three or four, but it's currently got the wrong shifter on, so none of them match up). Summer riding only...
A measly 5... But to paraphrase my sister, "You've only got one bottom!" On the other hand, she's only got the one pair of feet, but it doesn't stop the shoe purchasing...

Looking to buy a low-racer soon, probably a Challenge.

My shed contains no bikes, but does contain several manky old fence panels and other odds and ends.
On the other hand, the kitchen/living room contains:
- A pair of Dave Yates custom fixed-gears
- A Gary Fisher DualSport 229 'go-anywhere, do-anything' machine
- The remains of my old Marin Point Reyes (a snapped frame which I haven't got round to disposing of yet)
- Several boxes of miscellaneous bike bits that are gradually being disposed of thanks to the wonders of eBay.
Positively mundane compared to some ... OTOH, if there was a computer census I'd be way ahead ;-)

Well, I haven't got a lot of time as I've sat down to do this, but I know that Wobbly John has my vote so far, for best collection!
Simon, You know where to dispose of unwanted frames, now don't you! Especially if it's a steel one!
Anyway, a mental census reveals....
Home (3rd floor apartment)
Bedroom wall-mounted repair stand :-
Univega MTB I'm building for a friend's offspring for Christmas pressie (from her parents, not me).
Hallway:- 2-off Dahon folders.
Indoor shed:- Marin touring-adapted MTB, My 13 year old daughter's.
Dawes Super Galaxy
Moulton APB - currently under rebuild.
Moulton Standard, 1963
Outdoor shed:-2-off BoB trailers, child trailer (Well, dog trailer until poor Guzzi passed on recently). 2-off Raleigh Pioneer hybrids, aquired for re-sale.
Lock-up:- God its dark in here at this time of year....
2-off BikeRescue patrol bikes (see velovision 11). Made from MTBs, fitted tool boxes and other bits. One with Sram 3x7 and one with hybridised Sachs 5-speed coaster hub. Both look like high-vis 'emergency services' bikes.
3-off BikeRescue trailers. To transport up to 3 bikes on car roof-rack fittings.
Stealth Trailer - carbon-finish car roof box on chassis. (see VV issue 12 I think!).
2-off child trailers
Rosie, 1948 Rudge Whitworth Ladies bike
Gordon, 1955 Raleigh Superbe Gents
Raleigh pre-war ladies tricycle, in pieces.
Recumbent tourer, my own design, awaiting frame repair.

2-off Bromptons. One Nice new one in Blue& Silver, one Tip find undergoing rebuild.
Avanti road bike with hub brakes, Pelissier rear hub, track rims (clinchers though), audax kit, Rivendell moustache handlebars, LandRover green and cream, very pretty and classic.
Dull MTB for sale.
Several road and MTB frames waiting to be turned into something more interesting!
Paul Milnes Audax bike.
Daughter's custom racing bike.
'Long-John' project - a pilt of parts and bits of tubing!
And the Moultons.... from left to right on the wall...
1963 Standard (B-o-a built)
1963 Deluxe (ditto)
1964 Continental
1963 Safari (awaiting resto)
1965 Speed (ditto - daughters)
1970 Mark 3 custom job.
Mini
Chopped semi-recumbent Mini
And a few Moulton frames!
Parked outside this internet cafe...
StealthBike - custom-built expedition bike now all matt-black with Big Apple tyres. Won't recite the kit-list, can't be arsed. (T'riffic bike, and my most handy and versatile machine).
I won't mention the Morgan on Tom's orders!

If it was a steel frame, it would have been repaired and put back on the road ages ago. Sadly(?) it's aluminium and well beyond economical repair - I'm currently considering cutting it up and making a set of wind-chimes with selected bits of tubing.
> I won't mention the Morgan on Tom's orders!
Mmmmm .... Morgan! <drool>
Forgot to mention the third of my Dave Yates frames - an 853 touring frame which currently resides in my spare bedroom and will eventually be built up when I can be bothered (it's not my fault the Gary Fisher is such fun to ride ...)

Well, I sell my old Velos when I buy a new one, so I have not much to show off with.... ;o)
At the moment just a Gary Fisher Big Sur MTB at home in southern Sweden and a Scott MTB at work in Stockholm.
But..... I am right now (just received a letter) arranging the lay my hands on the brand new Nazca Paseo recumbent, that will be available in the beginning of March.
I am also planning on a Birdy Blue (or maybe Black). I need that because I have difficulties walking longer distances because of Rheumatoid Arthritis. Long live the cycles that still gives me the possibility to move around and feel free. I plan to bring the Birdy with me on my travels in work every week.
Please, let me know if you have any experiences of this?

My shed has only two bikes in it:
One Kona Hahanna, set-up as a do-anything bike, with 'guards, racks and dynamo lights.
A Raleigh Twenty, with a six speed derailleur.
My Living Room contains:
My Windcheetah.
My Brompton.
And finally, my Bedroom:
Enough bits and pieces to make another "Better" Brompton.
The only "Folding" I have, is the Bike!

And i forgot another couple of Raleigh 20s. One is original, standerd, 'time-warp'. One is a folder with 406 wheels (with s-licks), tri-bars on inverted cutoff drops, boingy seatpost, 7-speed sturmey coaster hub, 58 tooth chainwheel, and Sturmey front brake hub.
Sheldon Brown would love it! I really should re-commission it.
After logging off yesterday I sold a nondescript hybrid and picked up (free of course) an abandoned Dawes Discovery 501, dirty but good.

After reading the other entries, I feel almost deprived! An awfully short list, in comparison:
Greenspeed GT3
ICE Q
Catrike Pocket
Barcroft Dakota
and after some minor fixing and fiddling is completed, another trike that is not in keeping with my usual picks. Very reclined, very light, and one-of-a-kind.

I wish I had the shed space some of you do or maybe not...
Garage has, in no relevant order:-
Marin Bear Valley MTB c.1989 with rare Shimano Mountain LX thumb shifters(well I've never seen them before or after) and original Biopace chainset - not used enough!
Raleigh 300 stick bike with carbon forks and gently being upgraded to 105
Mortimer - my carbon SWB recumbent, similar position to Kingcycle
Speedy no 5 with home grown Ultralight seat (has v. sharp edges!) and modded to 406 & 26" wheels
Kingcycle Tchaicowski low bike with K-Drive
Wooden Fish On Wheels - fully faired low bike, all home built inc. carbon frame (ref. http://www.wisil.recumbents.com/wisil/gnickgreen/nick_green.htm)
Plug for Fish fairing waiting work on wet weather screen mod.
Moulds for new version of the Fish chassis - called the Hippocampus - a project which is at least 18 months late
Microscooter of some dubious vintage but it was a bargain!
Action Man kids bike which the loving son doesn't like (I have to build him a Speedy so he tells me)
Enough new bits to build 5 Hippocampi
Large collection of mangled K-Drives
Brazing kit
Radiator
Carpet
Loft contains:-
Moulds for the Wooden Fish fairing along with one old and 3 new Fish fairings and a Speedy fairing aka "the Kevlar Bomb"
Workshop houses:-
Old wheels, spiders, spare tyres, spiders, assorted moulds, spiders, various metal mangling equipment, mangled metal....and spiders.

Nothing exciting but I'd like to join in anyway!
Thorn Raven Adventure Tour (The one with the Rohloff) with front & rear racks, standlight dynamo system child seat permanently mounted on top tube with QR mounting for rear seat. Used for everything from commuting to camping.
Brompton T3. Don't know precise age as I got it off ebay last month but it's a well used Mk3. Gets used sometimes. Bought it partly for versatility and partly because they fascinate me. Waiting for SA to produce their narrow 8 spd now....
1990 Raleigh Mustang. Was the emergency spare until I bought the Brommie. With a new headset, front wheel, brakes, and upgrade to dynamo lights and a hub gear it'll make a good hack...one day.
1997 Raliegh Activator II. Full "suspension" MTB. What was I thinking? Horrible to ride, nowhere to mount luggage, lights or mudguards and transmission worn out (due to lack of mudguards!). This is now my wife's bike so it's failing don't matter as it only does about 7 miles a year!
A decent trailer and a recumbent trike are on the wish list

Brompton T5
Homebult frontwheeldriven midsteered recumbent in the cycleshed before but now a friend borrows it
Unicycle with 20 inch wheel right now beside my bed

Hmmm. The Shedde usually hav:
o HP Velotechnik Speedmachine
o ICE Trice XXL (which is in the kitchen at the moment)
o Trek 4300
o Revell Romany
o BoB trailer
o hedge trimmer, chainsaw, garden shredder[1]
o old wheels, tyres, tubes, bottom brackets, q/r skewers and gubbins (various)
o several million t&g; floorboards
o the door from the roon formerly known as Newsletter Central
o tqt[2] (assorted)
Cunning plans for next year include the unmantling of the conservatory and the molishment of an all-new conservatory/shedde combination with space for even yet more tqt.

Andy, I've had the Raven for 10 months now and can recommend it. It's as good as the Nomad I p/xed for it but is much easier to look after. Seems a shame to use it all the time but it's tough enough not to worry and with all the bits, especially the child seats, I like to think it's to uncool for many thieves!
I believe a Tandem version is coming out soon so perhaps I can try a new tactic with the wife!

Gosh, is that the time? Better weigh back in with my stocklist then.
My Shed:
The Archer fleet plus-
*531 Coventry Eagle Elite, Mum's abandoned bike, light as a feather and awaiting a discerning recipient;
*Red '20's rodbraked job, rescued from skip;
Lucile, a TT lookalike job on a Raleigh Europa frame, very orange;
*24" wheeled Puch in mindbending 70's colours;
Half a Moulton Stowaway;
Many, many, many wheels, mostly imperial, very successful at breeding in capitivity...
Jen's shed:
Coventry Eagle Randonneur, comfy lightweight black beauty timewarp;
Orange, the hack- Old frame with curly lugs, Dutch hub braked 5spd derr wheelset rescued from Uni bikle auction for a fiver, (thanks Arch), Rivendell moustache bars, allsorts of bits scarpped from other people's bikes grafted and cabletied on. Gets more admiring comments than anything else I own, and must be good because Scaife's just produced a very classy copy...;
*Dawes Flair, 60's 5spd, rescued because I liked the colour and I'm a sucker for patina;
Watime Raleigh ladies machine, all black, 'wartime livery' decal;
Postwar Raleigh, more chrome, suits preraphaelites;
Radnall Micro, swapsied from Cyclemagic - thanks lads! Very cool. If you're a nerd, anyway. Love the way it folds and rides;
Half a Moulton Stowaway;
Raleigh Twenty stowaway, undergoing a monastic conversion for local habited monk;
Lovely silver track frame with double plate fork crown, mmm, latest project;
Evil Universal folder, perennially in danger of being the basis for my longjohn project, (I'll race you, Andy!);
Phillips trade bike, just brought up from Leicester, to become the Budgie Bikes Support Vehicle for the York Hirebike fleet - Thanks Cylcemagic!;
Nondescript trade bike, off to replace the car for a couple in the wolds, (Hi Rachel!).
Under Jen's Stairs:
Jen's Falcon hybrid, now upspecced beyond all recognition. Weirdly mounted brake levers so she can brake with her thumbs and avoid aggravating sore carpeal tunnels. Modified rear rack strengthened to cope with postgrad-level bookloads...;
Me Galaxy, now with lots of flash kit on it and world tour ready, just when health rules out any ambitious riding whatsoever. But hey. Armchair comfy;
Halfway Singlespeed folder - lovely bike, whatever the pundits say...
Jen's (rather medieval) livingroom:
30's Rudge Whitworth, "By Appointment to His Majesty the King";
'48 Humber "By appointment to the late King George";
Mk1 Thorn Discovery. Bob Tennant, inventor of the Micwic Delta back-to-back recumbent tandem, finally persuaded Alison to ride it with him, so this came to live with us. Lovely bike.
My livingroom:
28" wheel Penny farthing by LeRun in the fireplace;
Prewar wheelbuilding jig on the hearth;
Some MTB frame or other suffed behind the sofa - don't think Archer knows it's there...;
In the cupboard under the stairs:
Peacock finish MTB frame,
'63 BOA Moulton, taken apart to sort overhaul the fork, and because looking at the rough and ready way I'd built it up was in dange of causing Andy physical pain;
Upstairs bannister:
*20's tandem frame masquerading as a balustrade. Keep threatening to build it up as a 3 spd pub bike. Never get round to it;
Attic:
'48 Raleigh Clubman, really ought to ride it more;
'48 Elswick open frame four speed;
*Merrell 531 frame;
Weird Aztec-styles Peugeot frame;
*Dawes road frame Jim Mcgurn found at the tip one day...;
Jen's parents garage:
*Mission alloy MTB tandem, 'roadified', disc braked, and unused due to Thorn;
Jen's BikeE;
Mike West's Hermitage-er-bikeshop:
Speedsix awaiting a complicated 3-way wheeldeal to get it back on 17"ers again;
Pete Eland's front room:
Black Falcon 5spd, Pete, call me and tell me when to come get it, OK? ;-)
...even I think that this is a touch excessive, but the damn things just accumulate... Anything marked * can probably be prised from me by a combination of money and fast talking... (Anything else might be, too, with faster talking and more cash.)
Totting all this up I ended up a little surprised by both the sheer numbers and the lack of exotica, but then I've been immersed in lots of exotica at work for the last few years, and the headaches of making it all work after the public have bashed the heck out of it has made me gravitate to the mechanically simple when off duty I guess.
Forgive the typos's, or blame them on the spirits ;-) Merry Christmas, one and all!

2004 Brompton T6, with 12% gearing reduction (I live in a hilly town), extended seatpost, Brooks Titanium saddle, and the Touring pannier. I owned a '99 Brompton T5 once, but I foolishly lent it to my son, who lent it to an idiot friend without my permission, who wrecked it. Nobody gets their hands on this one! I've still got the briefcase-type bag from the old Brommy, so I've got a choice of luggage, and in fact use the old bag most of the time. The frame of the new one is red throughout, for what it's worth.
'99 Copenhagen Pedersen, with front and rear Blackburn racks fitted, and Carradice panniers to go on it. 7-speed SRAM hub gear and drum brakes. Wooden mudguards. Green.
'81 Raleigh 'Royal Roadster'. Black. Rod brakes. Hockey-stick chain guard. 3-speed Sturmey-Archer Dynohub. Dynamo lights. Presumably a rod-brake roadster made as recently as 1981 (I got it dated by the Veteran-Cycle Club, having bought it second-hand about a year ago) was a deliberate play by Raleigh for the nostalgia market. Be that as it may, it's a lovely bike to ride, and took me on a 100-mile leisure ride last June. I've replaced the original saddle with a Brooks B33 - the one with the huge springs.

Hey, tom, I'm glad to see that the SpeedSix has finally migrated to a place of refurbishment! One day, eh?
I suppose that's an apostrophe in front of 63 B.o.A etc. not and asterisk! Darn!
Our friend simon needs something to come on wednesday evening pub rides with us. I was doing an old 531 frame (the 'Bag-o'Shite') but its too rusty. If you have anything spare thet might suit, you know my number, otherwise it's a Dawes Discovery 501 I got from the tip.
I have just managed to sell 4 bikes in the last week!!!! now I see all those hooks in the garage roof, just looking at me, all empty! Tormenting me!

My shame (and joy)
Shed 1, Rock Lobster cyclo cross frame, forks wheels - a project waiting to happen, daughters Trek bouncy MTB, very old with a frame wrecked by over enthusiastic application of a work stand (not me honest), various wheels, boxes and weeds growing thro the floor, rustic stuff for Essex.
Shed 2, - the brick built one, Pashley trike - my wife's machine and a mini monkey bike, purchased solely for racing at a mid summer party and tricky to ride when sober.
and the Garage, - no longer for the car but:
Toxy - ready to stop the traffic
Trek - road bike, ruined by poor packaging when shipped to me (keep cassettes away from alloy frames).
Marin - 1994 titanium MTB simple efficient and a joy.
Cannondale MTB something or other.
Haro MTB - sold & going tomorrow
several frames from Trek, Orange and Merlin (projects to dream by).
Brompton - heavy and frankly over weight and over priced.
Licence has been used in this description, as I live in Essex some of this is stored in a lock-up unit at the back of a farm some miles away - its a local tradition.
Plus all the gather grimble from 25 years in the same house, kept just in case!

hmm, some pretty impessive sheds!
Don't think it would be fair for me to list the contents of the Cyclemagic shed and it'd take too bloody long*. You'll have to come and have a look for yourself. Or you could ask Tom 'swivel head' Riley.
*And I'd have to mention my 750 Honda - which I swapped for a couple of vintage bicycles.

As we live in a B listed (Grade 2) pile in a conversation area (where you get talked about for building modern sheds in your back yard, and fitting UPVC windows) my shed is on the first floor.
Best description of the 'ecurie holladaise' is that I don't own bikes so much as a clooection for frames and wheels which can be ridden in various permutations.
There are 4 Brompton frames, one currently being riudden has 1-speed freecoaster hub and SON-XS 80 front hub - geared about 80". Brakes HS33 hydraulic. One frame is kitted out for V brakes, and Nexus 7 (but it kept breaking spokes and Alistair Gow (Wheelcraft) kept taking the **** out of either my wheelbuilding skills or small wheel bikes). Another is kitted with HS33's and was 1-speed (2 with foot & finger gear change) and trailer towing hitch (up to 100Kg). The other is basic L3 form.
2 Micros (1 3-speed 1 single with extended seatpost (awaiting new steerer plug))
1 broken Tactic (with 349's) 1 broken Bickerton, 1 Kingpin (440's awaiting build of alloy 451's and slicks with single fixed - just right to upset the occasional MTB/roadie as I pass them on a shopper bike.
2 1-wheel trailers which have a variety of 'bodies' - see stein somers Brompton FAQ site for bike trailer version.
1x 27" original Scot (Rattrays) 1 x 28" Woodrup (I think)
2x 29" 531c Pennine short chainstay diamond frames (the only pennine frames to take the seatpost transfer on the head tube)
1 x Palm Beach/1947 Raleigh (dads old bike) bitsa - fixed
Various 26" and 27" wheels - fixed, Suntour set and 1 set of Maxi-car
2 x kids 305 MTB's 1-speed
1x c.1950 kids bike solid tyres (trainer bike)
1 x Uplus 2 with slicks
Some bikes live in a rack over the stairwell most in first floor garage.
Greatest loss - beautiful 27" Pennine with maxi-car hubs 28"-126" gearing, reckon I had almost 60mph out of it blasting down A9 hill into Inverness - distinctive one of two made with Pennine on seatstay blanking.

>> 1 x Palm Beach/1947 Raleigh (dads old bike) bitsa - fixed <<
My first 'new' bike was a Triumph Palm Beach bought in 1960 - I was promised it if I passed my 11 plus (what greater incentive could there be) - a jewel in ultramarine and ice blue (the only colour scheme available). One and the same bike Dave - I'm quite sure it was a Triumph - or were they not very imaginative with names in those days?

Yes, the palm Beach was a Triumph. i have had one through my place recently,1957 model, a nice metallic red with pale blue 'billiard-cue' paint job, so at least one other paint scheme there.
Dave, that foot operation on your Brom sounds intriguing. Want to tell us more? Is it to cut down on cables?
BTW the Schwinn has now gone to Mr D-Tek himself, Kevin. The Bickerton and Pashley Picador are now for sale. See Sales section for other things.
