How to post images

There are three stages to posting an image:

First, make sure it's a sensible size and file size. A good size to aim for is around 500 pixels wide, and under 100k in file size. If that confuses you, try e.g.

to read about some basics of image preparation.

Then, you need to put it up on the web somewhere: often your ISP (Internet Service Provider, the people who provide your web connection) will have given you free space - see their instructions as to how to use it. Or, use a free service such as Photobucket:

http://www.photobucket.com/

Finally, you need to put a link to that image in your post, surrounding it with and tags as follows:

http://www.velovision.co.uk/mag/issue16/covergrab16.jpg

I've added spaces before the final closing square brackets of the tags so you can see the code, not the image. The bit in the middle is the URL of your image. To get this, get the image up on yoru web browser, right click and select 'properties'. The URL should be shown.

Remove the spaces in the tags and lo! It appears thus:

IMPORTANT: Please only link like this to images which you host or have put up on the web yourself. Linking direct to an image from a news site or the like is 'stealing' their bandwidth, without giving them the opportunity to show you photo credits, adverts or other things necessary for bill paying. If you want to show such things, put a normal, non-image link to the page containing it.
